When this stuff hit the scene in my teenage years I was an admirer. Yet I was not convinced to trade my beloved and long trusted Original Monsieur Musk (by Houbigant). However there was no pretending that Ralph’s Green Bottled potion was not very effective. Especially when the girls who would normally tell me how good I smelled started dividing up their commendations to some of my brothers who had began employing that new (at the time) thought provoking fragrance called Polo. I felt challenged. Eventually reformulations left us all starving for true scents. The new stuff is ok. But you youngsters would trip out if you could smell the stuff from us old timers good ole days. Raid your Grandpa’s stash and borrow some sniffs. In the meantime this modern stuff will have to do.

All other scents hit their knees out of genuine submission when Bentley For Men walks in. This stuff is divinely masculine while retaining an elegant base. Mildly musky, I can not imagine that anyone would be offended by it. If I could tweak it at all I’d up the musk. But do not take that as a complaint, this is the best modern men’s fragrance I’ve tried… by a lot. If you are unhappy with most men’s fragrances these days due to feminine undertones this will fix that.

The original formulation of this is, and I say this without stutter, stammer, hesitation, equivocation, or hidden doubt, the best fragrance for men I’ve ever inhaled. This current formula barely even reminds me of the real thing. I am not certain they share the same skeleton. It’s like Don Perrion Vs water from a pothole. If anyone has ever smelled the original please testify in the comments. If I could, I would buy the original formulation rights and rerelease it. It would change the world for the better. Until then this version at least, however slightly, sort of resembles the original. If I were not so familiar with the original I would probably like this more. It’s like traveling across a desert, seeing an oasis, being filled with hope for a refreshing quench only to be hammered back to reality upon realizing it’s just a mirage.

I received this in a “masculine discovery set” with 6 other fragrances from PDM. I hate to say it but this stuff smells like a concoction of vanilla bathroom air freshener, incense, and bug repellent. I am still wondering if PDM sent me a faulty sample. I mean it is nasty to the max. So much so that without saying a word to the negative I asked my wife and daughters one at a time to give me their thoughts. They were all equally disgusted. I am sad about it. But the truth is the truth.

Halthane to me reminds me of the bully on the school bus when I was 7 years old and he was 17. It’s powerful. It’s strong. It’s intimidating. It’s in your face. It gets away with crimes against humanity until someone stands up to it and says “sit down Mr meanie pants”! I can somehow imagine that there are people that will wear this. We will never see eye to eye.
