While calling this fragrance a musk isn’t what I consider to be untruthful, as a musk enthusiast I must say it is the least musky musk known to me. With that out of the way it is very nice. It is kind. It is friendly. To me it smells caribbean. It smells like an island fruit that I have no name for. It smells like a man who is not looking to wow the ladies but to be their friend.

A Rough and Rowdy Sailor
Royall Muske goes on strong, very spicy, with nutmeg, some other kind of spices, and cloves. In the first ten minutes, it exudes a hint of soapiness, and a very distant kind of musk. It has that Old Spice vibe to it, so it's manly -- no question, and it works, but it is reminiscent of OS, so if that's not your thing, you probably won't enjoy this.

I'm not the biggest fan of OS, but every once in a while I put on something like this. It's retro; it has a little bit of cachet to it. I was surprised that it started out so spicy-soapy; I was expecting something more like Drakkar Noir. Silage is about a foot. It slowly invades the air around you, but it's not overpowering.

It is a little harsh in the beginning (blame pepper -- it's not a real plant anyways); by 2 hours in, it has warmed up significantly to be this warm, slightly-spicy, musky-caramel concoction. That phase is fantastic. Is there leather in there too? The soapiness mingles with some vetiver. By twelve hours, it is a spicy-soap admixture with the projection of half a foot or so, and it becomes soapier from there until close.

Based on what I had read of this company, I didn't expect anything this complex or masculine. I did expect more musk, though. Anyhow, this is definitely a retro cologne, one that has a lot of masculine oomph, and maybe some machismo depending on your tolerance for such; it's a neighbor of Olde Spice and has the charm of an unpolished man about it. It might be too traditional for some and I understand that. I won't be rushing to stock up, but scents like this have their uses and their occasions. Sometimes you may just want to feel like a rough-and-rowdy sailor.

Very old-fashioned barbershop. Soapy clove/spice sweetish musk. As barbershop as they come.
