Redrot

This was the scent that hooked me, and still the one I most see myself in. Upon spraying the tart, salty plum is most noticeable. After a few hours it becomes smoky, cedar dominant, but the fruitiness is still there beneath. Floats atop my skin in a very casual, warm way.

It smells like sitting around a fire in a cabin with your friends and lovers while the aroma of the plum clafoutis you ate for dessert lingers in the room.

I tried this on a test strip at Scent Bar and I was bewitched. It was orange candy with a little bite of pepper (like a Sicilian citrus salad) that dried down to reveal a mysterious, entrancing smoke scent. Not like a campfire but more of a fresh, outdoor smoke, like smelling a controlled burn from miles away.

I thought about it Flaming Creature for months and finally got it, and ended up disappointed with its scent on my skin. It's mostly a dusty, spicy jasmine on me. No orange ring pop, no pink pepper, no incense, no smoke. It's redeemed by the complex dry down: I think I'm getting the sandalwood, and the wormwood lends it a sweet medicinal flavor. It's on me, but it's not what I expected.

It's a Southern cemetery at midnight, humid but chilly. Still mist hangs around jasmine vines, obscuring someone just out of your view.

Starts out with a very bright, loud, sweet-not-tart synthetic mango but spreads, takes shape, grows into something wonderful. After a few hours the mango is joined by something floral. By the end of the day that is replaced with a warm musk. This reminds me of the moment just after the sun has dipped below the horizon and the sky is still painted with the colors of the sunset.

Smelling this was a truly shocking experience, akin to watching a great horror film. "Congrats baby!" my boyfriend said as I described it to him. "You're always trying to touch the void."

Initially on the blotter it was an unremarkable blue fragrance. But after it settled for a few minutes.... it was breath from a stranger's unclean mouth right up my nose. I gasped! After sampling I went to a movie and wore a mask in the theater, and that uncanny smell was trapped in there the whole time. Really disturbing.

While I agree that this is stunty, I think it's undeniably olfactive art. I would love to smell this on someone who really likes wearing it.

Such a special scent. Opening alternates between licks of lemon frosting and blowing up balloons. Definitely reminds me of those baby dolls with squishy hollow rubber heads. Then it dries to a warm cocoa powder scent. It's very feminine, but feels wearable to me (a not very femme person). It's delicate and hazy but there's something dark beneath. I get a tiny bit of mildew beneath all the loveliness, like a family photo album ruined in a flood.
