Rockford... One Call is Enough!
Well, this fragrance has nothing to do with the aforementioned title of an American detective series from the 70s. I just took it, well, because the name was mentioned.
Forgive me or not.
Rockford came to my attention around 1987. Back then, it probably still belonged to Atkinson, and I seem to remember that it had a more intense scent. But it could also be that my memory is just playing tricks on me.
Ah... at the age of 19, it was an affordable and also great fragrance. However, to my knowledge, it wasn't in a glass bottle yet, but in a black rectangular plastic sprayer with a polar bear on it. And I could definitely afford the 50 ml.
Scent-wise, as mentioned, it has a broad and wintery quality to it. It is definitely wearable for both young and old. You can tell that it doesn't compete with the more expensive and perhaps higher-quality fragrances. But that’s not the intention here, and besides, something can smell very good without necessarily leading to debt.
In the first 10 minutes, it comes across quite intensely sweet, and my first thought was of smoke machines. After those 10 minutes, I immediately forgot that thought, as the polar bear became gentle, cuddly, and also a bit more robust in its note. Basically, this is not a perfume for spring or summer for me. It feels too heavy.
As for the sillage and longevity, it seemed more substantial and intense to me in the 80s. I think the reformulation has taken place, and some more expensive ingredients have been replaced with cheaper counterparts... It's a pity, but it’s still pleasantly fragrant.

...which plagiarism?
A U does not seem to me to smell like a plagiarism.
Certainly, finer noses than mine can judge better, but I cannot understand that A U is a copy of Trussardi Uomo '83. Coincidentally, I still have about 30 ml of T U '83 - and so I was able to compare.
A U definitely goes in that fragrance direction, but it has its own place. I became curious due to the comments here and got myself 30 ml (yes, sometimes I am brave...) and was not disappointed, even though my hope was to get a good copy of T U.
A U somehow fits me like a lid on a pot.
It is not intrusive, as was more common in the eighties, but rather subtle.
The purchase was definitely not money wasted for me. I just find it great, without being able to evaluate it according to the fragrance pyramid and elements - maybe I will be able to do that one day.
So all I can say is:
Yes, the Arrogant is delicious and will be one of my staple fragrances! It's a pity that it seems to be available in Germany only in the 30 ml version right now...

The One Man Show
Oh...Bogey-Baby, if this scent had existed in your time...
One spray and you're in the capsule - surrounded by a clear and unmistakable statement: Here I come!
Two sprays - well, then you have to stay in quarantine for an hour, otherwise everyone else around you will wither away. Only then does the intrusive Bogey turn into a real Bogart.
Basically, the OMS was a shot in the dark that I took based on its comments. My thanks definitely go to all my previous commentators. When I unpacked the rather quirky bottle, I initially thought: Oh dear, what is this going to be...
But then (I’m always very brave and go straight for the full program) I took a spritz on my neck and... whoosh, I was gone!
In the field with a leather jacket and sturdy boots...Tuscany or Perigord? More the latter - after all, it’s a Frenchman (I hope OMS forgives me)... on a beautiful spring day!
Yes! I want to go there more often. And (haha) it’s very easy: One spray is enough!

The FBI Agent and Me
In the mid-80s, when I was still a young lad, I got my hands on a sample of G-M.
Of course, I was far too young for such a bold fragrance, but I could no longer run away from IT. In no time, the sample was empty, and the last scent atoms were sucked away. Since I was still in school at that time, I had my older (and working) sister gift me this fragrance. The waiting time until I could finally hold the black bottle in my trembling hands seemed endless. As soon as I applied it, the trembling was gone - in the mirror, I suddenly had a hat on and was wearing a dark suit with a black tie, and of course, the obligatory opaque sunglasses.
Yar, a G-Man!
Today, I wear (hat aside) dark suits and ties every day (mostly) and (should the sun actually shine) dark sunglasses. The G-M suits me a bit better now.
In the mirror, there is a slightly angular face with graying hair, clear eyes, and various wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. The mouth and chin suggest that any contradiction is pointless.
The aura of the G-M is embracing, loud and clear the announcement: here he comes - THE man!
Yar, I like him, the G-M!
But everything in its own time... ;-)

What is it,
that won't let me go from you, you colorless aftershave?
I try to give myself (and of course the interested reader) an answer to that.
About 3 years ago, I changed my shaving habits and banished the products from Wilkinson and Gillette from my bathroom (and ultimately from my house) and acquired some classic safety razors. Along with that, the question of a new aftershave became urgent.
It should
- not sting
- care for the skin
- and preferably smell good.
In my extensive search, I encountered many, many waters that stung and some lotions that my skin (and also my nose) consistently rejected.
Then I came across the Classic Scent, a truly great old one. I don't know for sure (a knowledgeable person may correct me), but this aftershave has existed for almost a hundred years. At first, I thought I would smell like I was in early retirement and a senior citizen's home (which I have nothing against in principle, but I am too young for such pleasures).
So I bought a bottle at a moderate price and looked forward to the next, soon necessary shave.
What awaited me was indeed something like a revelation!
The bottle itself doesn’t impress - it doesn’t have to, because the content makes up for everything.
The scent, as I opened the bottle, was immediately familiar to me, pleasantly familiar.
It awakened a feeling of calm and security that I hadn’t felt so intensely in a long time. It was a very, very old feeling. Certainly from my childhood.
I see my father in front of me, taking me in his arms, I perceive his scent - and I know for sure that he never used this aftershave! Incredible and yet I associate exactly that with it!
I feel calm, the day is flowing in its course. Nothing can disturb this tranquility. I am at home, I have arrived.
So much for the poetry associated with it for me.
How does it actually perform in reality?
No stinging disturbs the freshly shaved skin. The Classic Scent is more of a lotion than an aftershave. But still, the desired freshness and the soothing of the slightly irritated skin set in immediately.
The scent is fresh and somehow slightly citrusy and sweet-bitter at the same time.
It's hard to describe this scent that envelops me like a light summer jacket after a gentle warm rain.
For an aftershave, it smells very intense for a short time without being intrusive. After about an hour, it fades slightly but lasts at least another 5 hours.
Spacious? Sillage? Hmm... when I have the scent on, I move in the universe of the Classic Scent and can hardly assess whether I am still detectable ten meters against the wind.
Interestingly, it also appeals to women and I have not yet met one (which really isn’t because I meet few) who would have held her nose.
In conclusion, I can only say that the Classic Scent is among the feel-good fragrances. It is not a wolf - neither in sheep's nor its own clothing. It is something unique and somehow wonderful for me. I never want to be without it again.
