An Absolute Lucky Beetle
Not long ago, I had the pleasure of visiting beautiful Munich. Of course, I was looking forward to it. Exploring the lovely city, attending a great concert, meeting a very dear perfumer, and of course, Brückner was also on the list.
Finally, the day arrived. My better half stocked up on reading material and settled comfortably with a coffee in the sun, well aware that it might take a while.
So, equipped with enough time and anticipation, I headed straight to Brückner.
A young, clever man was already waiting there as if he knew that a lot of work awaited him. Even before he could properly ask what I would like, I had already expressed my wishes in one sentence. Everything that we don’t have. Of course, the fragrances from Brückner himself were also included, which I can’t test at home.
Time passed, and the young man was already drawing on his reserves of patience, having certainly earned his evening off that day. I was particularly taken with the Brückner fragrances from Micallef. Everything had to be tested, except for this one. It was supposed to be oriental. Not really what I was looking for. So completely without flowers and oriental. No matter, after I had already tested everything, one more wouldn’t hurt.
A generous spray on the arm. Yes, yes, not bad, somehow very fine. Not an oriental as I normally know them. And now the decision of which one it should be, which one gets to accompany me home. After all, I didn’t want to keep my better half waiting until he gets a few more gray hairs.
The young man sniffed at my arm and suddenly rolled his eyes. Man, this one is an absolute dream on you, really very beautiful. Which one was that? Oh wonder, the beetle, the one I didn’t even want to test.
The one that starts with a sweet orange and, after a few seconds, spreads a fine orangey-chocolate scent. Sweet gourmand without being sticky sweet. Then the fragrance transforms and increasingly resembles a sweet pipe tobacco with a slight rum undertone, but one of the finest kind.
When I was still a young woman, I worked as a draftsman in an engineering office after my training. The older engineer who always gave me the plans to draw and explained the project was a pipe smoker. Back then, he could smoke in his office as he pleased. I loved that smell that lingered everywhere in the room, especially in his beard and probably on me. He often looked quite puzzled when I got a little closer than necessary : ). This scent strongly reminds me of his preferred and fine tobacco.
Such a beautiful sweet tobacco scent that then additionally becomes a bit woody and lightly spicy over time. A nice medium sillage, noticeable but not intrusive. A fruity gourmand-oriental, if such a thing even exists.
Floral or oriental, I simply couldn’t decide, and so in the end, both fragrances came home with me. The effort and patience of the young man paid off at least.
Recently, I must have sprayed a bit more of it on, after all, I was at home and couldn’t bother anyone, when my better half came home. Hmmm, what smells so damn good here? Did you buy a new fragrance again?
No, that’s my souvenir from Munich. One of the two you had to wait so long for : ). But the wait was worth it. My husband found it to be one of the most beautiful fragrances I’ve ever had.
And now I see it that way too, and I believe my signature scent has strong competition. And even one without flowers.
But no matter which one will be my first favorite in the future, it stays in the Micallef family.
And the last time I wore it a few days ago, a lady followed me out of the store, it wasn’t just raining from the sky, but also compliments with the obligatory question of what a beautiful fragrance this is. My absolute lucky beetle : ).

Harmony Wrapped in Gold
When I saw this fragrance at the auctions, I knew only one thing. I must have it, absolutely. Not that I knew how it smelled, no idea. But if it says floral-powdery here, then it's already clear to me in advance.
When I won the bid, the joy was immense. After all, there were still about 65ml left from 100ml. And with the hope that it wasn't spoiled, I waited every day with impatience until it finally arrived.
There it was, the beautiful and well-known bottle. My curiosity was uncontainable, and the subtle and fine scent from the cap already hinted at the treasure I had received. The first attempt to open it failed mercilessly. Even the subsequent attempts did not yield the desired contents, only sore fingers.
Immediately, I turned to the forum, messaging our vintage specialist Flori. Knock, twist, knock. Tentatively on the edge of the table, always afraid the thin neck would break. I had already damaged a bottle this way before. It simply couldn't happen here, not with this fragrance, under no circumstances.
Then my gaze fell on the drumstick from Ian Paice. My beloved memento from the drummer of Deep Purple. This should work, after all, it's hardwood and the size is perfect.
A few taps later, and the stopper lay in my palm, as if by magic. There it was, the fragrance of my desire.
I cannot judge how the fly smells. My comment only refers to the vintage EdT. And although I am not the super nose here and cannot write such detailed and wonderful comments as so many here, Dave's blog encouraged me to at least try. This fragrance definitely deserves it. And I took my time to test it intensively. Of course, every drop means one less, but it is a pleasure at the highest level.
From the very beginning, there is pure harmony here. A fruity-floral opening in beautiful elegance. Finely dosed and harmonious. Nothing shrill and nothing piercing. Rather warm and slightly powdery. As it develops, a cinnamon note comes into play. I cannot say where this comes from, it is not listed as such in the pyramid, but it reminds me of days of security in childhood when I loved to eat rice pudding with cinnamon. It is a fine and warm cinnamon scent. Then the flowers come in. Everything is perfect and harmonious, and yet I imagine I can smell the carnation well. And this combination of the carnation with the fine cinnamon scent, underlined by all the other fragrance notes, which I cannot pick out individually, creates a perfect harmony.
In the base, the entire harmony is preserved. None of the base notes would disturb it.
Conclusion: A perfect fragrance with a slight sweetness, powdery and full of harmony and warmth, without ever losing its elegant note. A fragrance I would love to wear at any time, one I could never perceive as old-fashioned, and one that would find its admirers in every era.
If my comment has mistakes, please don't be angry, it is still the boundless enthusiasm for this rare and wonderful treasure.

The cheaper Ananda?
Ordering Micallef blind is no problem for me. I almost always like the type of fragrances. And when plum is listed as well, the decision is quickly made. Now my new fragrance has arrived. The anticipation was great and the price certainly not too high. Carefully opened the simple packaging with the seal and took out the beautiful box. Immediately my gaze fell on the name and you can well imagine my surprise. It says Ananda.
Sprayed the fragrance. Great, I really like it. A fresh fruity beginning and my nose picks up mimosa and violet. Delicate, elegant, and even as the other fragrance notes flash, the feeling does not fade. I know this one.
Straight into the treasure chamber and woke Ananda from its slumber. On the left Ananda, on the right the new fragrance delight. Well, I admit, my nose is certainly not the expert of experts, but either it is a reformulated Ananda, or it is Ananda in a different outfit. And if my nose is deceiving me, there is definitely a great similarity present.
So for those who love Ananda, there is a cheap alternative to choose from. And the bottle is certainly easier to store in a bag. Just like with Ananda, the sillage and longevity are the same here. But reapplying is definitely easier.
I certainly do not regret the purchase at this price, but I would have expected something completely new. As beautiful as the fragrance is for me personally, there is at least a small deduction in points for that.

A somewhat extreme progression
Sunday outing, sunshine, and of course preferably to a place where the shops are open. Especially to a place where there are also perfumes. The selection is not large, Aigner and Chopard, but okay, better than nothing at all. The better half dropped off at the café bar and off I went. Sniffing tour. I had already sniffed the Chopard last time, now it was the Aigner's turn. With this one, I thought, yes, not bad, not bad at all, good. The price was also not higher than that of a good lunch. So why not. Proud of the new scent, into the bag with it and surprise the better half.
In the car then the big moment. One spray to the left, one spray to the right and with expectant eyes towards the better half. Who unfortunately at that moment made a face and exclaimed loudly: My God, what stinks so much? Man, it’s like someone is hitting me with a toilet bowl stone.
I whispered, it will get really nice, just wait. After half an hour, a timid question from me: And? It's still nice, right?
It’s okay, you have much better ones. What’s it called? Ladies Day. My husband dryly replied: The name is well chosen, better wear it only in the company of ladies. Tsss, these men:(.
I like it.
Okay, the beginning is already strong and citrusy, but as it progresses, it becomes softer and more floral. The flowers are also beautifully harmonious, none push themselves to the forefront, even with a hint of gourmand. After the strong start, it also becomes quite subtle, making it suitable for work.
After about three hours, my husband said: Now I like it much better. Of course, there was almost nothing left to smell. The longevity is average. You can still smell it up close, but just very softly. But at that price, you can still enjoy a beautiful scent. Especially at higher temperatures, it would definitely unfold even more beautifully.
In contrast to the previous comment, I find the progression rather extreme. From strongly citrusy fresh to floral-gourmand and rather powdery-cuddly. Testing it is definitely recommended.

For the Tender Moments in Between
Today is all about vacuuming and cleaning, one does not want to sink into dirt. And that in this sultry and warm air. Far, very far from the most beautiful day of life. Sweaty, with my hair hanging down and a tortured look like a dachshund when it can't find its bone, I take a short break with coffee in my mother's kitchen to write this comment.
Child, what happened to you? You look terrible, at least you smell nice. That's right, Mom, the scent for the most beautiful day of life. Although, who needs such a scent just for that one day which is supposed to be the most beautiful anyway, even without a fragrance.
Right now, I need this, right now. A scent like a tenderness in between, when the man is not there and even the cat seeks refuge from the heat, hiding somewhere cool and shady. When no one is there to convey a feeling of tenderness, this scent is a romantic companion that envelops you and hugs you with its tender aroma. With every little movement, it is there, just a whisper, but it is there.
A brief citrusy fine touch, only to immediately indulge with almond. For me, it is mainly the almond and the orange blossom that pamper my nose in a very pleasant way. Soft but noticeable. Sweet but not sticky. When the rose appears, it likely supports the whole without making a big appearance. Lovers of roses would probably be disappointed. Even the patchouli, which I usually struggle with, is more than decent here. The base is generally very well balanced for me, none of the fragrance notes dominates, and the longevity is quite decent for such a fine scent.
I had the choice between the perfume and the EdP, but I opted for the EdP. On the one hand, because it is stronger for me, and on the other hand, the citrus notes are a bit more intense, which makes the scent feel a bit fresher to me. Either way, both are excellently composed and beautiful.
Today is certainly not the most beautiful day of my life, but it definitely makes it much nicer. So now I grab that silly vacuum cleaner again and continue dancing through the rooms :).
