Welcome! I'm new here too still browsing around getting used to the layout. I like it! The only thing I really liked about F*****ntica was the perfume directory pages with the accord breakdown and pyramid pictures for the notes. I'm excited about getting set up over here though!! Hopefully this site becomes bigger over time too!

how does this place compare to basenotes size wise?

The database here is really impressive though, and it seems more precise than Fragrantica's re: notes and overall info!

I don't know for certain what the respective userbases are, if that is indeed your question, but I'd say the .com English part of Parfumo must be quite smaller than Basenotes. But it seems to be consistently growing, no?

@SixAmbregris Yes it is impressive. I've been using this site exclusively for almost a week now and the directory definitely seems more accurate. I love how customizable everything is here. I'll be here from now on Ive been converted. 👍

@Ninamariah If you select which fragrance you are currently wearing, this fragrance will automatically be added to the tested fragrances if it is not already there. You can use the Assistant to see which fragrances you have worn and how often. Click on your profile picture at the top right to find it. You can then click on „Tracker“ to see which fragrances you have worn often or rarely and can select a specific year or „Overall“ for the total.

Thank you so much @Hapax ! That I was thinking but it s seems that many are using that shelf for "Tested" ones not worn ones (of course it's basically the same thing). I want that I have separately tested perfumes of which I have made some kind of decision whether it's for me or not and I have some kind of picture of those scents. Tested are for me as well that kind of perfumes which I didn't like and have given the rest of the samples away. I don't want to mess my "worn" shelf with something which I didn't like at all and needed to scrub off.

As a side comment: I had been looking everywhere, including in the German forums, what the difference between the "Wishlist" and the "Watchlist" was, to use them "properly". And what I gathered overall, in the end, was that it was pretty much up to you do decide what to do with each!

I'd say we could also re-appropriate the "Tested" shelf, then - I don't know yet what I'll do with it, but in the meantime, I've been deleting the auto-added SOTD from it every time as I personally have no use for that.

And for all shelves, I find the option to add "Notes" to every perfume listed invaluable, it allows you to customize pretty much everything.

 The intended use is:

Tested - everything you ever tested. Worn fragrances get added automatically because the algorithm assumes that you have tried something when you have worn it. It's a bit annoying for people who want to separate fragrances they merely tried and moved on from those they own.

Wishlist - I want to own it (like a birthday wishlist).

Watchlist - I want to sample it (or maybe in some cases also: I want to keep an eye on the reviews).

Of course everyone can decide what they want to do with their profile and use it differently, but that's how most people use it. You can always add custom collections to make it more clear or to separate different sub-groups. For example I have a huge collection of samples I currently own and don't want to move to "tested" yet because I feel like I don't know them well enough.

Thank you for taking the time to detail!! (and @Hapax  too Smile )

It would actually be great to pin y'all's explanation somewhere?
It seems to be a recurring question for newcomers, so having it at hand would be mighty convenient! Even if it's "use it as you want, really", if most members tend to use the two shelves in the same way, I suppose many new people will want to do the same, for clarity's sake.

That’s actually very helpful thread!

Hi!  I’m also new(ish) here from that “other” site. I’m still trying to get my bearings. I bailed from that site due to some frustrations with the site. I am looking forward to replying to reviews and interacting with fellow perfume lovers more. This site seems to make that easier. I’m enjoying Parfumo a lot!

As an aside, I had a lot of photos posted over there and am stumped how to upload photos here. Any help???  I can do it to the album but can’t seem to figure out how to share it more broadly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! 😊

Looking forward to making parfumo friends.

Waving hello from the US

@KT4267

To upload a photo go to the main page of the perfume in your photo. Look at the main menu under the 'interesting facts'. Rate, review, classify, etc. Select PHOTO (on the right). Hit SUBMIT. Mods will review it and it will appear on the Parfumo's main page (new photos feed).

That's so useful, thanks! I'd been thinking of "watchlist" as a list of fragrances that I want to try when they come out, but which aren't out yet... This makes more sense!

(I'm also a new user, from the US, and have been interested in fragrance briefly in the past but am finally getting into it as a hobby. Looking forward to chronicling my adventures in nice-smelling things here!)

I joined the community in June, however moved from F******ca this week. I added 36 perfumes to my collection, the count of perfumes shows 37 one additional ?
