Wow, there's a lot going on here!! One thing that I've noticed and don't understand is that I have "Parfumo Points." What are these, how are they awarded, should I be trying to get more for any reason whatsoever? Excited to explore the Parfumo more, if there are any little features I should know about or you enjoy, please feel free to point them out!
Just made the switch from Fr*grantica
Welcome!
As far as features go, one that is awesome on this site is the advanced perfume search. Go to the top of the page and click in the search perfume box to put your cursor there. Then click on the right arrow/greater than sign. That will take you to advanced search. All the search criteria are on the left. You can search on multiple notes and also exclude notes from your search. If you play around with it a little, you'll see how great it is.

I think the points are just for bragging rights. You can see how you can get points here (click on "what do I receive ParfumoPoints for").
I switched yesterday. I removed all my reviews and I'm about to delete my account after I'm done copying all my shelves over. This is so much better!
The points may be to establish who is and isn't an active member. Lots of fragrance scammers out there.
Side note - I'm very confused about how people are linking other fragrances in their long form reviews. How do you get the link and the little picture next to the bottle?

Gourmandgrl
@Delonwheels if you type "#" and then start typing the name of a fragrance, a drop-down will appear with fragrances that match this. Once you click on the fragrance you're looking for, it will link it. Also, welcome to Parfumo! 😊

@Psmellsnice welcome, hope you like it here! 👋
I agree with @Smirky - the advanced search feature is really satisfying to play around with!
Other features I really enjoy:
- customizing "shelves"/profile
- helping submit fragrances to the database: www.parfumo.com/fdb.ph...
- keeping track of the fragrances I wear through the "Assistant" feature, & getting recommendations from the Assistant on fragrances in my collection! 😊
Me, too! I've erased all my posts on the English site after meeting @jeca aka Elena Knezevic and feeling incredibly disappointed with her attitude towards her users. I transferred all content from their Romanian site and I am slowly translating them to English now. I hope this site will allow me to keep both languages in my reviews, as I really enjoy and it helps me to write in my native language.
I'm wondering if anyone knows how to add fragrances that are not in the database, but don't have a nose listed on the commercial site. I recently discovered these amazing Thai oil perfumes from Panpuri, but they don't list the fragrance creators. Thank you.

Welcome! I had the same questions when I first switched. To tag, simply put a # sign and start typing a keyword.

Normally, you can go to Research and then "Propose a perfume", there should be no problem! The "perfumer" field is actually not mandatory, I suppose because that info is regularly missing? (especially for older perfumes)
At any rate, no problem there!

Thank you so much! Panpuri perfumes are pretty amazing and I`ve been begging Fragrantica for ever to add them to their database, to no avail. This site seems so much more convenient and user-friendly.

Did you meet her in person? What happened? Please, tell us more!!

I basically commented on that miserable Trump post, how come that some legitimate perfume houses or perfumes that have been on the market for a while, that we've all requested over the years, again and again, never get added and that Trump, who is not a perfumer, gets his golden dild#@s immediately advertised. I questioned their integrity. It just seemed so distasteful. Innocent people died, but here's me and my perfume, please buy it and vote for me. We had a whole exchange in private DMs for a few days that made me realize that you cannot argue with fanatics. It wasn't nasty in language, but it was horrifying that it was like a circular argument completely lacking in logic. Then I saw jeca's public comments and replies to other people. I think, in the end, it was the way she lashed out and just erased anyone who posted comments that weren't even mean or nasty, just questioning her stance. That, in contrast to the way she seemed to revel in people who echoed her point of view. It was so childish, like a high school chatroom. In the end, I asked her to please erase my account because I cannot do it myself.
I didn't really care for the .com site. Recently it had become useless, dominated by BK540, Cloud, and it's almost like nothing else existed or deserved a review. Most reviews had become short, boring, unreliable. But what I do miss is the Romanian version of the site, where the admins have been pretty decent, and I could write in my language. As much as I want a forum that caters to me and my compatriots, I can't in good conscience contribute to the profits of trolls. I still haven't canceled that account but erased all content. It pains me, to be honest. It felt like a connection to my home, my language. Oh well.
I have just switched my things like couple of weeks ago and it was a terrible job. I made this account in the beginning of June but didn't have time to do anything since here is so much different kind of things. I think I'm quite well adapted this site and all these nice things here but one thing is confusing: The shelf "Tested": I was thinking that is perfumes which I have been tested and I think many people are thinking like that but it seems to be the list what I have been wearing or am I right? As I have so many perfumes, it would be nice to know what I'm wearing and how much. Thank you if someone can answer for me.

Use the magic wand next to the "Search perfume..." field.

@Ninamariah If you select which fragrance you are currently wearing, this fragrance will automatically be added to the tested fragrances if it is not already there. You can use the Assistant to see which fragrances you have worn and how often. Click on your profile picture at the top right to find it. You can then click on „Tracker“ to see which fragrances you have worn often or rarely and can select a specific year or „Overall“ for the total.
Good call! Some things are not worth your time! It's a toxic place; they thrive on negativity. If you call them out they will retaliate, delete your posts, and/or harass you. Which results in misguided 'witch hunts'.
Imagine having this amazing platform and technology tools... and using it to create drama and wage a personal vendetta against your users who provide free content for your platform!
Just to add my 2 cents...
My first stop was "that online place about perfumes" but soon I became demotivated to use it as a member. I couldn't pinpoint why. As time passed, I realized it's disappointment because of my impression that reviews (mostly) weren't "on spot", authentic, and usable when deciding whether to blind buy or not. Maybe it's just me, but I got the impression there's a lot of "philosophy" and showing off, and less of a humble, enjoyable, down to earth, positive and joyful reviews about fragrances that delight or disgust us. 🤭
I find all of that here, so thank you all.

Hi there! Jeca behaved awful!! I had the same experience. By the way: maybe you should remove the @ before the name Jeca in your post, because when you click on that, it refers to someone called Jeca from Switserland and we don't know if that is the same person (I doubt that) so could be painful (however she was active six years ago, so probably won't be aware of it), but just to be sure .

Thank you for letting me know. My apologies!
Welcome! I'm new here too still browsing around getting used to the layout. I like it! The only thing I really liked about F*****ntica was the perfume directory pages with the accord breakdown and pyramid pictures for the notes. I'm excited about getting set up over here though!! Hopefully this site becomes bigger over time too!
how does this place compare to basenotes size wise?

Thank you so much @Hapax ! That I was thinking but it s seems that many are using that shelf for "Tested" ones not worn ones (of course it's basically the same thing). I want that I have separately tested perfumes of which I have made some kind of decision whether it's for me or not and I have some kind of picture of those scents. Tested are for me as well that kind of perfumes which I didn't like and have given the rest of the samples away. I don't want to mess my "worn" shelf with something which I didn't like at all and needed to scrub off.

Hapax
@Ninamariah Fragrances that I wear, I have usually tested beforehand and if not, then a worn fragrance is tested for me. If you want to separate that somehow, you can create folders, but I see you already know how that works.

The database here is really impressive though, and it seems more precise than Fragrantica's re: notes and overall info!
I don't know for certain what the respective userbases are, if that is indeed your question, but I'd say the .com English part of Parfumo must be quite smaller than Basenotes. But it seems to be consistently growing, no?

As a side comment: I had been looking everywhere, including in the German forums, what the difference between the "Wishlist" and the "Watchlist" was, to use them "properly". And what I gathered overall, in the end, was that it was pretty much up to you do decide what to do with each!
I'd say we could also re-appropriate the "Tested" shelf, then - I don't know yet what I'll do with it, but in the meantime, I've been deleting the auto-added SOTD from it every time as I personally have no use for that.
And for all shelves, I find the option to add "Notes" to every perfume listed invaluable, it allows you to customize pretty much everything.

Hapax
@SixAmbregris That's right, everyone uses the Watch List and Wish List differently. For me, the Watch List is for fragrances that I want to test and the Wish List is for fragrances that I would like to have as a bottle. I usually put fragrances on the Tested list that I have tried with a Decant/Sample or in some cases with the bottle.
