I'm the type of person to go through phases with notes; I'll have my never-fail favorites but the rotating 'notes-of-the-month' so to speak, tend to be what I focus on. Last month, I was big on tea, musk, and ink. This month, it seems to be honey, plum, and hazelnut. Next month, it will probably be something similar, with me hunting for fragrances with these notes, wishlisting a bunch with the note, and then never buying them. But, there have been 2 notes that have always interested me since I started collecting fragrances 2 years ago: Wine, and Agave. While booze isn't necessarily the theme with these two, it certainly couldn't hurt.
I've tried a good few agave fragrances, but the note never seems prominent enough to make me think, 'yes, this is an agave smell and not just something vaguely green'. Wine, on the other hand, is much harder to find. I tried samples of Da Lat, Acrasia by Beaufort London (hated this one, as it smelled like pure iodine and nothing else for the 6 ungodly hours it sat on my skin) and Cherry Ink by Lorenzo Pazzaglia. None of them gave me that feeling of sitting over a glass of red, book in hand, with quiet, contemplative music whisking my thoughts away.
Noir De Noir by Tom Ford is probably the closest I've gotten to that feeling. The mix of saffron and roses and truffle and whatever else is in it just evokes a glass of wine amidst rose bushes.
If anyone has any recommendations on where I can find an elegant, somewhat dark wine fragrance, or an authentic agave fragrance, it would be greatly appreciated!
