Cheers (New Year)!
Uncommented fragrances No. 143
For me, Parfum d'Empire are among the most exciting brands between mainstream, niche and manufactory. I don't know exactly where they belong, how much turnover they make and whether they should be regarded more as a one-man company or as a larger enterprise. It doesn't matter
I think I got attention at that time through ex-user Angelliese, who knew and passed on some of them, and finally also through Luca Turin, who recommended several of them especially, among others "Azemour Les Orangers" (2011), which I now love very much and which is an absolute highlight for all friends of Hesperidia*, not only of the last years, but in general, as well as "Le Cri", so powdery bright that even I find it good.
Now that Marc-Antoine Corticchiato is sending a fragrance called "Salute" into the race shortly before New Year's Eve, it's the perfect occasion for a toast on New Year's Eve. In addition, he has again succeeded so cleverly that I even forgive him the somewhat lukewarm Aquaten "Acqia di Scandola", which was launched shortly before and which is quite good, but not really round.
Salute ! on the other hand, was launched together with another hay-spicy, herbaceous fragrance ("Immortelle Corse"), which both have a lot in common: Tones of herb, hay, dry spice, in total a Mediterranean aura.
While Immortelle Corse focuses on the Immortelle with its earthy, herbaceous, hay-like structure (and very beautifully so), Salute ! goes one step further: here, wedged between the citric opening and the humorlessly conservative woody-mossy base, an idiosyncratic tone is found, described above with vine leaf and wine yeast. Why else would the fragrance be called Salute ! (note the exclamation mark)? I never would have guessed. But there is indeed something alcoholic, sparkling, sharp and tartly spicy with a residual sweetness that follows shortly afterwards (note: wine connoisseurs!), which, spurred on by the powdery musk, picks up speed and gives the fragrance a grandiose texture. Must have been a good vintage!
So it would be very good to wear for New Year's Eve. I will seriously consider this and also an acquisition is not completely excluded. For me one of the best fragrances of 2019.
