La bella vita
In hommage of its Corsican heritage, Parfum d'Empire released a series of unusually creative compositions. Each of them seems inspired by the fresh and aromatic nature of the island. In this context I see "Salute !" also as a celebration of the simple joys of life. Fresh nature, sunny weather, good food.

It is a citrus-woody composition - more citrus than woody - with a bright luminous boost of iris. Particularly fascinating in the first minutes, where i get instances of chocolate and raisins. But really during the whole course, the scent is uplifting, bright and very sunny. Uncomplicated, but what a mood-booster!

Joyful concoction
An uplifting perfume. Luminous, joyous, easygoing. A chocolate-like opening brings instant smile. A wine-like quality weaves throughout the entire journey, convivial but never drunk. The composition may be complex but the final effect is one of simplicity and transparency. It continues the evolution of the brand since Le Cri de la Lumière towards a style of luminosity and cheerfulness. Parfum d’Empire has found its own style, and stopped following the footsteps of Serge Lutens (Ambre Russe/Ambre Sultan, Aziyade/Arabie, Cuir Ottoman/Cuir Mauresque, Musc Tonkin/Musc Kublaï Khan, Wazamba/Fille en Aiguille…).

Cheers (New Year)!
Uncommented Fragrances No. 143

Parfum d'Empire is one of the most exciting brands for me, straddling the line between mainstream, niche, and artisanal. I’m not exactly sure where they fit in, how much revenue they generate, or whether to consider them more of a manufacturer (one-man company?) or a larger enterprise, but that doesn’t really matter.
I believe I first became aware of them through former user Angelliese, who knew some of their fragrances and shared them, and ultimately through Luca Turin, who recommended several, including the one I now love dearly, "Azemour Les Orangers" (2011), an absolute highlight for all fans of hesperidic scents, not just of recent years, but in general, as well as "Le Cri," so powdery and bright that even I find it appealing.
Now, as Marc-Antoine Corticchiato launches a fragrance named "Salute !" just before New Year's Eve, it feels perfectly timed for toasting on New Year's Eve. Moreover, it is crafted so exquisitely that I can even forgive the somewhat lukewarm, recently launched Aquaten "Acqia di Scandola," which is quite good but not entirely well-rounded.
In contrast, Salute ! was released alongside another hay-spicy, herbal fragrance ("Immortelle Corse"), both sharing quite a bit in common: notes of herbs, hay, and dry spices, creating an overall Mediterranean aura.
While Immortelle Corse beautifully centers on the immortelle with its earthy, herbal, hay-like structure (and does so very well), Salute ! takes it a step further: here, nestled between the citrus opening and the humorlessly conservative woody-mossy base, is a distinctive note described as grape leaf and wine yeast. Why else would the fragrance be called Salute ! (note the exclamation mark)? However, I would have never guessed. But there is indeed something alcoholic, sparkling, sharp, and herbaceous with a lingering sweetness (attention, wine connoisseurs!), which, spurred on by the powdery musk, gains momentum and gives the fragrance a magnificent texture. It must have been a good vintage!

So this would be a great choice to wear on New Year's Eve. I will seriously consider it, and purchasing it is not entirely out of the question. For me, one of the best fragrances of 2019.

Sangria citrus. Iris without too much powder. Grape must and leaves. Smelling like wine remnants from a party the night before.

Cheerful, sugary citrus with strawberry-like sweetness. Green grape leaves slowly unfurl. Really grows on you. Atmospheric.

citrusy and slightly sugary structure, but with a high relaxing impact. Signature for those looking for simple but complex

The immediate sangria-and-citrus smell was very refreshing, but after a few hours it evolved into pink handwashing soap...

A mélange of lipsticky elments from Le Cri / Cuir Ottoman and herbaceous facets of Corsica Furiosa and Mal-Aimé. Perfumed wine.

Here you can only say cheers! New wine, fresh in the fermentation process. Fruity, tangy-sparkling. Now all that's missing is the onion cake.
