ice/snow note? 2

recently, I find myself intrigued by perfumes with ice and/or snow listed as notes/accords within. i'm curious - I've never stopped to consider what ice or snow would smell like, especially from a perspective in perfumery. what do these smell like to you all, and what fragrances do you think execute the ice/snow concept best? I'm interested to hear!

That’s such an interesting observation ) It has to be a cool, airy, almost crystalline feeling like cold air, frozen water, or clean linen in frosty wind. IMHO it leans metallic, ozonic, or slightly minty depending on the blend. I think Byredo Blanche has that fresh snow-linen feel. And Armani Aqua di Giola has a watery-cool edge that reminds me of glacier melt. Juliette has a gun Not a perfume superdose – super clean and sheer.

@noodlehead19 great question, and here are a couple of forum threads on this topic you might also enjoy!

But to answer: for me it can include airy/ozonic elements (to make it feel frozen or like an ice cube), something metallic, and/or sometimes minty elements! 😊

This is so interesting! As a person coming from a country of about 6 snowy months, I have learned that even different types of snow have a bit different types of smell. I think for example "Snow (Cologne) | Demeter Fragrance Library / The Library Of Fragrance" smells exactly like melting snow or slush, frosty but more aquatic and earthy. But when it's -30 Celsius degrees outside and even your nose hairs are freezing, you get this metallic ozonic super crispy kind of smell. Fragrances like Lucia Bright Aura and Aqua 358 Thunderball remind me of that.

This is really intriguing, I haven't personally smelled many! Ernest Beaux allegedly constructed Chanel No.5 to embody a snowy accord. I actually have not smelled the EDT, so I've never experienced this personally.

Snow Angel Eau de Toilette has a snowy feel to it.

@Shadows444 Wow, I hadn't heard this before that N°5 Eau de Toilette was originally intended to have a snowy accord! I have smelled the original and yes, now that I think of it, it does remind me of clean wet spring snow. I would also say N°5 Eau Première has a similar accord and even more "icy" feeling. So probably certain types of aldehydes can create a snowy type smell too.

Yes absolutely! I find it fascinating 🥰

I also forgot to mention that Metallique (it won't let me tag it) from Tom Ford kind of has a cool aldehyde thing going on too! It reminds me of ice cream in a mixer with the metal attachment, some electrical note that's hard to explain, but also a snowy sweetness.

I need to try Eau Premiere again, it's been ages. Thanks for the interesting discussion 🥰

N°22 Eau de Parfum has even more of the snowy aldehydes than N°5 Eau de Toilette . But it's insanely expensive, unfortunately.

Ponchoo, you are so right about Le Flocon de Johann K . It feels like icy air. So refreshing. It is one of my favourite wears on a hot summer day.

This is interesting and I leave in a country where is a lot of snow during wintertime. I get that ice cold feeling from

Rose des Neiges (I have written a review) and

N°5 L'Eau Eau de Toilette
