TOSKOVAT OPINION (FR & ENG translated)

Je me posais quelques questions récemment, Toskovat est une marque connu d'ultra niche, peu accessible et controversé.
Personnellement j'aime certaines des créations tel que (Last birthday cake, Inexcusable Evil, F7, FE&BR) 
Mais cependant y'a une question qui me taraude récemment, que pensez vous du haussement des prix 
Est-ce que un 60ml vaut vraiment 275€ ????????????

I've been asking myself a few questions recently. Toskovat is a well-known, ultra-niche brand, not very accessible, and controversial.

Personally, I like some of their creations, such as (Last Birthday Cake, Inexcusable Evil, F7, FE&BR).

However, there's one question that's been bothering me lately: what do you think of the price increase?

Is a 60ml bottle really worth €275?

Well, this guy's recipe seems to be the following:

1. Never go to a perfumer school. You are too smart for Grasse, Givaudan, ISIPCA, whatever. Ahem, you are șelf thought.

2. Make people curious with some namby-pamby stories and some ridiculous pyramids of notes: credit cards, priest robes, blood..

3. Play on people's FOMO with your out of stock policy.

4. Insert yourself into some scandal (see Ataraxia) and make sure people won't stop talking about you.

You said all lmao, the betrayal collection, FOMO, and perfumeur school (I think perfumer school isn't necesarry s/o Alessandro Gualtieri my lover). Thanks for that review because I needed to hear it ! 

I think some of them are just overpriced garbage. Sorry! Others are decent, but not THAT good, you know? Plus, they send free bottles to influencers to hype everything up, so you really can’t trust all the glowing reviews.

Honestly, I don’t think most people need these in their lives. Sampling is fun — and usually more than enough.

Yeah to be honest, inexcusable evil the most hyped is not so disgusting and smells just like hospital only last birthday cake and FEBR are good to me that's why I needed opinions, but of course influencers has free bottles that's so bad for us...

Hello. Personnellement je n'ai pas vraiment accroché avec les créations. Ça n'est pas plus créatif qu'un Nasomatto par exemple et l'idée de surfer sur une pyramide de notes WTF pour faire vendre à des consommateurs tiktok ne me plaît pas (note vêtements de prêtres, eau bénite, carte de crédit). En fait je ne trouve absolument pas les prix justifié, en plus la quantité limitée permet aux revendeurs de seconde main d'augmenter encore plus le tarif excessif de base. J'ai quelques samples à la maison, je dois dire que je n'acheterais aucun full size. 

C'est clairement ça beaucoup se gavent avec des samples à 10€ 1ml c'est abusé, surtout que certe ça sent un peu le plastique pour Anarchist, mais honnêtement je prend une pièce rouillé que je met dans l'eau et c'est bon j'ai la même odeur x) ! Je ne dirai rien sur Nasomatto qui est ma deuxième maison préférée je suis un fanboy de Gualtieri je ne serai donc pas objectif x) Merci pour votre retour ! 

Yeah! I like Last Birthday Cake... but I don't love the price. There's a beautiful sad story behind the fragrance and its creation/meaning. That's not enough for me. I want a 'full package': a beautiful story, conceptual art, unique/high quality fragrance, and a beautiful bottle. I don't like their bottles. But if you really - REALLY - love that fragrance I think you should get it.

I already have it ahah just wanted opinions to me I really love bottles and packaging but he updated the price so I don't want to buy anymore !

I think he's just being greedy! The brand has been getting a lot of attention lately. He's definitely trying to make some extra $$... which is unfortunate! 

I still want to try a sample set someday, because I'm afraid I'm a sucker for edgy descriptions, but the way the perfumer handles himself is very off-putting.

Like, I don't know enough about the drama to know who's in the right and I don't want to, but even if Toskovat was 100% innocent in the whole thing (which I doubt), the whole "BETRAYAL" collection is just such a childish move. This is like high school mean girl drama. It's such a bad look.

Yeah, betrayal collection is just a move to get more buyers. I loved his creations, but right now I don't know if i'll buy again. Like inexcusable evil tbh is overrated it just smells like bandage and iodine. I want more to go for something like Tyrannausaurus Rex ! 

The dude is not a perfumer. He never studied perfumery. It's just marketing and absurdly high prices.

I don't know, I'm not against the idea of self-taught perfumery. There are textbooks and things available, it's perfectly feasible (though difficult) to do. That's not anywhere near an issue as much as the other stuff.

I hear you and you're entitled to your opinion. In my case, I prefer to spend my money on fragrance made by people who have been trained. So this is an issue for me. Along with the immature attitude and the attention-seeking behavior.

Agreed, there's some very talented self-taught perfumers out there who don't have the arrogance or marketing budget that some (*cough*men*cough*) get. Serena from Ava Luxe and Dawn Spencer Hurwitz come to mind.

I am someone who likes Toskovat' scents but I also would advise against buying them

If you can get small decants, they're fun to sample, and I like them. My favorites are is My Past Selves' Flowers and Take Me To Church, and I would get a second-hand bottle of one of them theoretically (if the price is right)... However, I agree that the perfumer's attitude is off-putting. It's giving "pretentious hipster with a man-bun" (he also happens to look the part ). Also, dropping extremely limited batches and then discontinuing those fragrances is just artificially creating "shortage" to make people feel like they're missing out and to make them buy overpriced scents.

And by overpriced, I mean, OVERPRICED (as of recently). As I mentioned, I like Take Me To Church, I think it's a very good heavy church incense scent. Of course, it got discontinued. This year, it was re-released under a different name "Domus Nomeni", and the bottle now costs over twice as much! 600 Euro! No perfume is worth this much money!

And I can spend over 100 euro on a 30 ml bottle if I love the scent, but these prices are too much even for me. Obnoxious and ridiculous!

Full disclaimer, I take no issue with self-taught perfumers, and the Toskovat' guy is pretty good as a perfumer (in my opinion). However, his attitude will be his undoing. I am not really familiar with his drama regarding Ataraxia, but I heard a little bit and sounds like it's just drama for the sake of more drama and attention to me.
