In Praise Of ...
Sonoma Scent Studio. I have just started to familiarize myself with this niche line because over at BN they praise it to high heaven. It is a one woman operation. Her website is very orderly arranged, provides all the perfume and background information you would want to know, the scents are multiple and seemingly of very good quality. That remains to be seen after I dive into the various sample...

Adjustments
Should I cry about vintages, long lost perfumes, time gone by? Not my style.
Should I protest against strict regulations that could kill some of the best perfumes? A lost cause. Too large a topic to elaborate, and this is not a political Forum.
What is left? Self help. Just choose from the truly...

So many revivals - what is going on?
There seems to be a trend - quite recently - to revive long, long ago perfumes. Case in point, the Oriza L. Legrand line. Some are supposed to be "the original formula", well, I suppose slightly tweaked and modernized, but true. This morning I noticed in Kafka's blog a revival - albeit not really successful - of "Tabac Blond" by Caron.

A walk through the forest
I was always looking for such a scent. "Enchanted Forest" by Vagabond Prince did not do it. "Incense Rose" by Tauer Perfumes - pine needles, great fresh air, roses, the great trees in the State of Maine, Arcadia Park - it came not even close. Enter "Chypre Palatin" by MDCI Paris Perfumes. Yes, that is near my feeling of a subforest thicket ... but a touch too civilized. And now I think I have...

I wish I could write like that
This entry is written in praise of another blog. We have already a Blog Roll which is updating. A generous source of information and a feast to read. Inside the Forum board, we have a spot where additional blogs can be suggested. I have no other place to stick it what I am about to elaborate on.
There is one blog in particular of which I have become an enthusiastic...

Chasing the past
The nose knows, at least, she thinks she knows. I came across glorious reviews about a line that has been revived lately. The website is as oldfashioned as the store in Paris. But that is the appeal. See this link:

The link shows the Online store - for shopping - but I will get to that. You can go easily...

Why does perfume have to be so expensive? The appeal of JAR.
JAR. These letters stand for the abbreviation of the name of the creator. The house has several perfumes, but one stands out. Its beauty hits like a "Bolt of Lightning" and that is the only description it has. What is in it? We don't know and we are not supposed to know. Each individual sniffing any of the JAR perfumes is supposed to form her own impression.

The holidays are fast approaching, let's get into the spirit
*** When the snow falls wunderbar *** (Unknown author)
When the snow falls wunderbar
And the children happy are,
When the Glatteis on the street,
And we all a Glühwein need,
Then you know, es ist soweit:
She is here, the Weihnachtszeit
Every Parkhaus ist besetzt,
Weil die people fahren jetzt

How do I love thee ... let me count the ways
Ever so often, by some sort of happenstance, I come across a scent that is - at least to my nose - absolutely outstanding. The pursuit of the Holy Grail has long been abandoned anyway, as there is no such singular scent because the preferences change as we go on forward with scent experiences, either chosen or accidental.
Which is this wonderful perfume, you will say. ...

The Catch-22 Situation
"Damned if you do, damned if you don't." One the one hand, we deplore the disappearance of vintage classics with all those potent ingredients as they are being reformulated, on the other hand we want a safe environment. We don't want to impose our precious perfumes on someone who may be allergic to them.
This dilemma has been going on for years. I had heard about the disputes, have half-heartedly...

Over the top
Is the industry going overboard? When one compares perfume history, the amount of perfumes issued each year is as many as never before. That then cheapens the product by the law of "supply and demand". So, the manufacturers hurry to add interest by branching out into the vast flanker sea.
Where will this go? Right now there is an abundance ... they cannot sell them, cannot GIVE...

Let me know, please ...
friends, I am a resident German and was asked recently whether I wanted to translate some of my reviews for this English site. Well, I think I will try some time later, when I have the time, the patience and the ease and most of all feel like doing so. Until then my German parfumo friend Pipette is so kind and starts translating some of my reviews and I post them for her. Please, let me know how you like...
