What perfume have you bought recently?
by Ferdynandamf | Perfumes & Brands
...TommieBootjeI feel like I'm sort of almost done building my collection and I'm now in the phase of adding the finishing touches. In part thanks to the fact that my perfume shelf is almost full (same goes for the drawer for the perfumes that are not in season). Anyway, recently bought Baba YagaBaba Yaga. I got a sample earlier this year, which was really good. Then after one wear I sadly dropped it and it leaked all over the floor. I was unable to clean it, but my house had never smelled that good. I also got a bespoke perfume from the same brand, which was inspired by going on a walk by the channels in my city.Very relatable, I'm getting more reluctant when it comes to blind buys and focused my attention on samples and decants. It's like I'm coming to terms that I actually like my little collection as is. There are of course few things that I would like to add some day but I noticed that I'm rethinking every decision to buy new, full bottle over and over. It feels like something beetween losing the spark (probably the novelty wore off, no more compulsive shopping) and feeling grounded. Anyway tested my decant of Kouros (Eau de Toilette)Kouros Eau de Toilette and felt the immiediate need to follow this up with full bottle of Lapidus pour Homme (Eau de Toilette)Lapidus pour Homme Eau de Toilette and I like it very much!

Do you ever take a break to help your senses?
by Ferdynandamf | Perfumes & Brands
...Oh yes, absolutely. There are days when I just can't imagine spraying anything. Mostly very hot ones. I use this time to recalibrate my poor recovering nose. Two, four days at most.

Motivation: Mood, Season, Weather or...?
by Ferdynandamf | Perfume Discussions
...I tend to stick to weather first and mood second. If the mood is overpowering it overrides the weather in some cases. It can be matching my mood (I'm enjoying some quiet melancholy today) or altering it a little if I do not feel like it (I've got stuff to do! Bring my MANLY and FRESH smell now!). I've recently started to bring forward fragrances that are associated with current season for convenience sake. It's summer but not in full bloom. Today's rather windy, under 20 degrees C and drizzling - it would be more typical polish August with thunderstorms on top of it all. My choice was BlackSoul Imperial (Eau de Toilette)BlackSoul Imperial Eau de Toilette that would technically be an overkill in summer weather.

What is your favorite vetiver fragrance?
by Ferdynandamf | Perfumes & Brands
...If I had to pick it would be the one which made me fall in love with pefumes:AlibiAlibi smoky, earthy, salty and incense-like, a polished-posh version of Lalique EN I hold it dear to my heart. But there are few more that come to my mind. When I need a creamy, comforting and gourmand take:Fat ElectricianFat Electrician When I am in dire need of elegance and simplicity on a budget:Vetiver BourbonVetiver Bourbon When I need that grounding earthy bitterness that takes me back to the 90's somehow:Vetiver EssenceVetiver Essence There are some worth mentioning but are used much more sparingly:Encre Noire SportEncre Noire Sport the only perceptible lavender that I tolerate on some days, on some it's a headache inducing machineFattan pour FemmeFattan pour Femme cheap clone everyday workhorse that nowadays gathers dust but I preffer this toTerre d'Hermès (Eau de Toilette)Terre d'Hermès Eau de Toilette that rubs me the wrong way sometimes with that grapefruit/flint combination

What are your loathed fragrance buzzwords
by Ferdynandamf | Perfume Discussions
...💪BEAST MODE💪 I despise that phrase with all my heart. Really. It's one of those words that you can smell and it's smells like gym locker room.Pantry dropper comes as second, very close. It's more descriptive. Perfumes also tend to overlap and intertwine with our sexuality and yeah, maybe it's a little bit vulgar but it manages to convey the message nonetheless. It's a very soft pass for me when it comes to others using it and I would probably never use myself. And for my polish users: perfuma/perfum when used as singular noun. People take the gentive/possesive form and use it as a first person nominative. In polish perfumy is always plural following the french per fumee. It's some kind of eastern dialect leftover word that engrained itself in colloqiual speech and I die a little every time someone uses it 😥

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Ferdynandamf | Parfumo Community
...TommieBootjeModernistaLempiOh gosh, I don't get it... Why they want to make everything a political statement now? Seems like fragrances are not the priority anymore, it's the owners' political agenda... Sigh 🙄 It only gets worse and worse. I would have tolerated it if all the discussion about it would be moderated properly and only respectful factual conversation without namecalling, conspiracy theories etc. would be allowed but no, they just remove all those comments they disagree with and leave all hate speech comments. That's their version of "free speech", it's just pathetic. But well, it's their site, they are "free to choose". And I'm also free to choose Parfumo.Agree, completely.  It's also rather worrying that they don't know the definition of hate speech, but have interpreted it as 'speech you hate', i.e. that those who disagree with them hate that that they speak!  The literal ignorance is rather astounding.  Or maybe they just don't care about the actual definition of hate speech and prefer to make up their own. At least, that's how I interpret it. What struck me the most is their stubbornes. In many cases taken to laughable extremes.Perfume hobby is what carried me through the pandemic and I mean it. I am immunocompromised. Literally haven't seen my friends or even family past my parents for the good chunk od 2020. The next year was little better in that aspect but still the interactions were very strict and limited.Even with precautions, shielding and very limited human contact caught it two times. I've partially lost my smell and recovered it mostly, but still suffer occasionally from chronicnasal problems. There still are days when my smell just kinda shuts off. But to have a collection of smells that could soothe, inspire, comfort, motivate and boost or even alter my mood wasa very important part of pushing through it all.Seeing main admins of fragrantica dogwhistling antivaxx slogans on their site banner was upsettingto say at least. A very bitter pill to swallow. Yeah, fragrantica is near unusable, UI is undistinguishable from 2000's myspace highschool project, feature creep and placing ads everywhere you can, people can be uncivil and rude, review bombing- that's taken for granted, that's the internet. But staunchly defending "free speech" and givingthe permission to platform vile and blantant hate speech or dangerous lies is another thing. It's not just washing your hands, it's a whole body opulent bath time. For the good part of myfragrantica experience I was merely managing my collection and looking at the reviews, avoiding forums. It's one thing to turn a blind eye to quirks and biases, everybody has them after all. But that site is broken by design and by choice and the community sooner or later will follow the trend (what I assume a part of defectors already noticed or felt). And admins have chosen a vile path that I do not condone and want nothing to do with. That's it.Also: hello parfumo community, I'm ferdynand.
