Smells
...I remember spending a day up around the area in Pennsylvania, USA where the Amish people have farms. Some are pig farms. (Thus the piggy reference.) I will never forget the smell. Looks like this.....but the SMELL! I happened to come across this online and just had to share!

...Sorceress:I think the worst references I've seen, although not here, are when a reviewer likens a perfume to an "old lady smell" or "smells like my grandma". Oh how I take offense to that! My Gramma always smelled wonderful. And what exactly is an "old lady smell"? My wish for these reviewers is to have someone donate to them a thesaurus and teach them how to use it. Or install a "Word A Day" program on their computers. When a reviewer writes a discerning story about a perfume, we appreciate it. When they write a review with negative images about a perfume that someone enjoys, is it wrong? Not at all. What is important is how the visuals are communicated. Are they rude and offensive? If so, that's simply wrong. Are they in all caps? Don't yell at me because you don't like the perfume. There is one time I used an unpleasant association in a review, and it was the truth. I really did get that odor from it. But that wasn't all I wrote. I explained much more. I'm very honest in my writing. It's my background and my degree. Plus, I guess I'm old-fashioned in my personal rules for writing. I take time to write a review, re-read them before I post, and even spell-check. But that's my style. Everyone has their own, but I would think they would want to aspire to learn the basic rudimentary skills of how to critique. The old "who, what, where, when and how" is simple to apply as a basic.I also find the term "old lady" to be highly offensive since it is almost always used in a denigratory manner. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that there are far better descriptives that can be used.

Les règles généralement trait sur la responsabilité dans laquelle les sujets sont abordés. La plupart des forums ont modérateurs specifiquement pour ces sections.Pardonnez moi si j'suis erronè.Although it is clear that the rules seem very important to some, most forums on animal or anarchy or fashion, etc. .. include sections as off topic chat or community. meaning 'speaking arena.' The rules generally relate to the responsibility in which subjects are discussed. The problems that have arisen there have nothing to do with the subject. It is hypocritical to provide a section where people feel they can discuss other matters then be censored when these topics are unpleasant to the administration or members become irresponsible and immature. Most forums have moderators specifically for these sections.Forgive me if I'm wrong. ***********************************************************I have to say that this seems frequently to be a fact there.

Some thoughts about cats and dogs
by FloraMilena | Off Topic
...Dlane1953:I recently read that attempted adoptions of black cats goes up dramatically in the weeks leading up to Halloween. This unnatural spike in adoptions has led many of our local shelters to refuse to rehome black cats/kittens during the month of October.I agree with this one. Also even dogs I think should be kept indoors on Halloween. There seems to be always (in the USA at least) some large activity of animal cruelty and other horrifying acts that go on around Halloween. We have to protect our pets from the lunatics out there.

The Science of Scent
by FloraMilena | Perfumes & Brands
The Hospital!
...After a long week I find myself more sensitized and craving of beautiful scents. It's not the disinfectants that actually bother me the most, it's the various smell of disease like infected purulent cancer sores, necrosis on people still living, etc etc etc. That can be nauseatingly overwhelming depending on how bad it is. Maybe that is why I have a dislike of too strong animalics. I don't want to be reminded of other people's flesh when I apply perfume to myself. And yes I notice that when I am in the hospice ward per se, the patients actually are happy to smell me, so are most of the other nurses (except one who has allergies to roses as she says, but it's not allergies she just doesn't like them.) So when I'm in hospice, I feel like the light fresh scents are therapeutic to the patients. And in hospice where I am there is not a legal requirement to be scent free, the patients can also wear whatever perfume or cologne they feel like. So that is nice.I was a vet tech for 18 years before I was a human nurse. And you can never tell what will set off a terrified cat or dog...or monkey. And often they don't mind until you get up close to restrain them for blood draws and the like. Then they are just trying to get away and it can become unmanageable. I stopped wearing perfume when I worked at the vet for that reason. Sometimes a dog or cat would lick my arm because they liked the scent, but then the same scent could negatively affect another pet. So I just stopped.Oh for a doctor in an office I would definitely not wear anything. You have such a wide variety of people there many with asthma and heart/lung problems, breathing is such a major issue that it isn't worth the potential trouble, especially if someone sues you saying that you caused their asthma attack.
