Animal, Mineral, or Vegetable?

Others have blamed civet for the "cat pee" and "urinal" cast of Czech & Speake CITRUS PARADISI, but it seems from the manufacturer's card that the source of the dirtiness is actually ambergris, also derived from animals (concretized excretions from the intestines of sperm whales--or synthetic facsimiles featuring ambrein, etc.), hence animalic. I think that the oakmoss is contributing as well, casting a grayish shadow of sorts over an otherwise clarion citrus cologne featuring grapefruit.

The main problem, for me, is that this cologne smells characteristically masculine. It does not smell feminine at all and pushes the limits of unisex, it seems to me. There are plenty of citrus colognes around with which I am smitten, so I can safely skip this Czech & Speake creation, leaving more for those who love it. You are most welcome. Happy to oblige. (-;

Another Day in 80s-Paradise

When testing all the Czech & Speake fragrances, one expects a light summer scent full of restraint with the name Citrus Paradisi, especially after so many mild, room fragrance-like appearances. But instead of summer, sun, and lemon, I was met with a true surprise, more positive than negative. However, had I read all your comments and who appreciates the scent, this would probably have come as only half as surprising. But I can at least somewhat understand the cat pee faction; I see this minimal animalistic note more as the icing on the cake rather than a no-go.

The scent starts off quite assertively, bitter and herbal. The grapefruit comes across thick, viscous, and very aromatic. But one will search in vain for more typical citrus accords here. For me, soapy-green, very spicy, and scratchy tones dominate. Definitely masculine and somewhat of a hairy affair, like they are no longer produced nowadays. Unfortunately, one must definitely add here. Therefore, this animalistic citrus scent is a must-try for 80s fans and nostalgics. A bit dirty, a bit sexy, but still very clean and refreshing. I realized today that I am an oak moss fan. The citrus notes have been dragged through the dirt, while the earthy notes have been cleaned up.

Bottle: nothing was invested in the exterior.
Sillage: mediocre - a dimmed 80s scent.
Longevity: pleasantly 5-6 hours in summer, but generally a bit too little.

Surprising, masculine, bitter, green, and sparkling mossy - for all oak moss fans, one of the (not only) summer hidden gems!

My mucous membranes are recovering again

.. and I did NOT sip Citrus Paradisi!
As a child, I tasted everything, well almost everything. This included grapefruit peels, orange peels, and the like. That’s the impression I get from Citrus Paradisi right after application. Fresh grapefruit peel. The green notes must come from citrus leaves. I don’t immediately notice spices in the opening, but oak moss in the heart excellently complements this citrus ambush with its own scent.
The final phase is fantastic with a warm hint of amber. Patchouli gives everything a certain seriousness without being too earthy.
I agree with Apicius, it’s one of the best citrus scents I’ve tested in a long time. And definitely unisex.
Regarding longevity: a slightly spicy freshness, close to patchouli, lasts relatively long on my skin (about 4-5 hours). So I can’t complain in this case.

typical Czech & Speake

.. a strong, somewhat bitter foundation with wonderful spices, herbs, flowers, and fruits

The bitter scent of the old pomelo, pardon, nowadays called grapefruit "lol," comes out great together with pepper and coriander

Anyone who automatically thinks of lemons when it comes to citrus is mistaken. They are not included

The patchouli, as always, is somewhat reserved in Czech & Speake creations.

The oak moss gives the fragrance a masculine touch.

It is a warm, strong (but not heavy), somewhat soapy scent.

Yes, it is indeed strong.
5.9? Not really your thing, warm showerers, right?
Did I go too far? Maybe.
It is definitely tight. Not evil. Well, maybe a bit evil.
I understand why no one gets it here.
It is quite edgy. The grapefruit is dominant. Coriander makes it a bit urinous. Spices are solid, level all in your face. Patchouli makes it even less sweet.
But in the end, it is the summer version of Giorgio for Men Eau de Toilette.
Hard, brutal, and uncompromising.
Not fluffy. I smell perfect aromatics.
Fair warning: For people who only consume sweet stuff as perfume, this is definitely not suitable.
It is hard, brutal, and evil. Nobody likes it because it smells like a urinal.
I find it aromatic, even if it is really far out. Like Giorgio for Men Eau de Toilette.
It doesn’t want to cuddle. It doesn’t just bite.
Yes, it is a real dog fight.
I find it wonderfully aromatic.
And I understand why everyone hates it. It is way too harsh nowadays.
Personally, I don’t think it smells like urine. Just a conditional association. But I can understand.
Not a pick-up scent for the gym.
But very great.
Not everyone has to understand.
A song? Hmm.
Maybe Raining Blood by Slayer.
