Why why why

Why there are so many negative reviews? It is such a beautiful scent. Yes, I agree it sounds very modern and probably combines all trendy scents, however I do suspect that it plays differently on every skin, because each and everyone describes it so differently. With my collection of over 200 bottles, I am finding it as something fresh and not repetitive. I cannot break it in notes, but I want to wear it and wear it to rediscover.

Stunning!

Barénia absolutely took me by surprise. I tend towards smaller, niche producers rather than the big designers, and my usual preferred scent profiles are woody, herbaceous, or mineral.
A recent acquaintance works at the Hermès store downtown, and I decided to swing by to say hello. After sniffing just about everything they had to offer, I went home with a few samples. I spritzed Barénia on and left to run some errands, and received a text from my wife shortly after: "What the heck did you just spray? It's gorgeous!" My first clue that this perfume is really something special.

What does a miracle berry smell like? I have no idea, but the fruity quality up top isn't glaringly sweet thanks to the bergamot, and flows nicely with the lily, avoiding a screechy white floral moment. The peppery-woody base rounds things out nicely, and while much of the marketing around this fragrance evokes a leather accord or sentiment, I don't get much of that. The drydown is pleasant, persistent, and comforting.

It's a well-blended, refined olfactory experience that asserts class. Opulent enough for special occasions and getting dolled up, but not out of place or too ostentatious for every day wear. Barénia makes me feel like I have my life together, makes me hold my head a bit higher, and gives a little boost of confidence that any great scent should.

A pleasant surprise with a polished and contained aesthetic

I didn't expect to like this one given the negative comments and the numerous comparisons with Gallop which was never my thing, but I found myself enjoying it a lot. I find Barénia to be a clean, elegant and refreshing contemporary chypre which connects with several of Hermes' precious clean leathers in the context of new nowadays materials. In its cleanliness it becomes almost more soapy than leathery. I guess I'm able to see a line connecting Caleche (which will be forever my most loved perfume) and Kelly Caleche edp with this young member of the family. Perfect for serious office work or high level business environments. Taylored and effective. The perfume of a minimalistic perfectionist who finds beauty in matte faded gloss steel. Maybe it is in this sense it shares something of the 90's aesthetics.

Sweet cider !

This one doesn't seem to be very popular and yet I find it very nice!

Barénia is very fruity and I don't know which ingredient gives this sensation but, to me, it smells like apple and more particularly like cider! I have the impression of smelling sweet cider mixed with white flowers, it's very original and very pleasant!

Maybe too original? Well, I don't mind, like it!

A hint of cat's pee

Give me
Some miracle berries
And a hint of cat's pee...
But by chance, past the opening, the cat's pee note disappears.
Then, you get something very similar to Exit the King, probably due to the molecules work.
It desserves patience, the base notes worth the wait.
I gave it a 5,5 rate because cat's pee made it lose points and also because Barénia is not an appropriate name for a perfume without a leather note.
