The gourmandification of a perfumery icon for the modern days - I like it more than the OG
When a fragrance as iconic as Terre d'Hermès gets an update (or a new flanker), expectations are high. After all, the original Jean-Claude Ellena masterpiece has been the benchmark for sophisticated, mineral-citrus masculinity for nearly two decades. Terre d'Hermès Eau de Parfum Intense is Christine Nagel’s take on making it relevant for the contemporary days... and I think she’s done it.

I’ll be the first to admit, my initial impression was lukewarm. I dismissed it as yet another flanker attempting to cash in on nostalgia or simply the original success. But after giving it a second try, I realized that this is the contemporary Terre d'Hermès we didn’t know we needed. It respects the DNA of the original while reworking it into something deeper, richer, and dare I say... better!

The signature mineral-grapefruit opening is still here, but what follows takes the scent into uncharted (but not unfamiliar) territory. The addition of coffee and licorice pulls Terre into a darker space, vaguely reminiscent of the spiced, syrupy depth of Sauvage Elixir, yet without the bombastic nature. These gourmand touches don’t overpower the composition but rather complement the earthy vetiver and flint (or lava stone?) with an almost roasted, subtly bitter warmth. It’s as if Terre d’Hermès traded its airy, sunlit dryness for something more brooding and complex.

All in all, this isn’t a reinvention, but rather a refinement. A modernization that feels natural rather than forced. The elegance of Terre d’Hermès remains intact.
For longtime fans of the original, this might take some adjustment, but I believe it’s the Terre that truly moves the story forward after 20 years. And unlike some attempts at “updating” classics (Dior Fahrenheit Le Parfum, anyone?), this one feels like a genuine evolution rather than a side-step.

I didn’t think I’d say this, but Terre d’Hermès Eau de Parfum Intense might just be the definitive version of the fragrance.

Terre d'hermes
The opening is intense and special. Burnt licorice with the well-known Terre note. The opening lasts only a short time and then it changes into a youthful Terre d'Hermes. I think the opening will put off the seasoned Terre user. But I think this scent will attract a whole new fan base to Hermes.
Very fun and innovative flanker for me.

Great addition to the TdH family
I was looking forward to sampling this new TdH flanker and was surprised at how good it turned out to be. In the opening, I got a bit of citrus but the coffee and licorice immediately dominated. First the coffee was more forward but as it dried down, the licorice was more prominent. This was followed by a mineral-y--earthy accord that was at first strong but then retreated as it dried down. For my taste, I would have preferred the mineral-y and earthy scent to remain a bit stronger but it was there, under the licorice. Also noticed a very subtle sweetness.

Longevity has been quite good for me. I was getting strong whiffs even at the 10 hour mark. Projection is more moderate, with the fragrance forming a compact scent bubble after about the 2 hours or so.

Overall, a very nice fragrance and artful addition to the TdH family, albeit a more distant relative. I'm looking forward to getting a bottle.

Terre d'Hermes DNA + soft coffee and licorice
Opening is a bit harsh, may be because of the licorice. But after 45 min it becomes a very elegant scent. It's all about subtlety. You get that soft coffee and soft licorice blended with the original Terre d'Hermes DNA. It's very classy/sexy. I would wear it during winter and fall. Projection is moderate and it stays long on skin.

People say they want something different…
….and then they cry about “the flanker” being too close to the original.

Low and behold, when the designer decides to take it and give it a twist, then what do you get? “Oh how they RUINED the line I love.”

SMH… is there ever a solution?

Yes. How about this? If you love a particular variation, buy it. Again and again, but don’t cry about the changes that come when they drop an EDP, Parfum, or Intense.

With that aside, let’s talk about THIS one.

It is FANTASTIC. I will admit it’s a little odd when it opens with the coffee, but after about 5-10min it starts blossoming into an epic creation. The licorice comes in and it almost feels “leathery”. Like a shiny, oily leather. A nice black couch that’s been well kept in a business office for 8years. That’s the vibe. You can FAINTLY feel the TDH dna, but it has definitely evolved into something darker and more daring.

Who will wear this?

The confident, smooth professional. The guy that knows he’s got “it.” He’s easy going. He’s a good communicator. He’s very confident, and he always gets it done. He does everything HIS way. He is mature, and he always thinks and acts on his own terms. He’s not cocky. He’s not brash. He is intellectual, and he is developed. People can FEEL that he has what it takes, and they naturally RESPECT him for it, even if they’ve never seen him before. That is who wears this.

Performance wise, the projection bubble reaches out to a 3ft radius, but the silage lingers nicely. People will know which direction to go in order to find him. It has an 8 hour+ longevity. The only thing that sucks is the price tag, but if you want it, you have to pay for it. Just ask the guy I just described.

As I said above, if it’s the OG you want, buy the OG. If it’s truly a change you’re looking for, give this guy a shot.

I’m sure glad I did.

Unexpectedly great. Wears very spicy with a little green and bitter sweetness, some mineralic facet beneath. Sweeter in the air.

Weird coffee-synthetic citrus opening which is off putting to me. The drydown is the mineral OG DNA with hints of coffee and licorice. Meh.

Cachaça and bitter coffee over Terre d’Hermès DNA. An off-putting sour caipirinha with roasted coffee beans and a mineral/earthy base.

I think this is a great evolution of the original tdh DNA. I think it keeps what made the original great, and adds a lot of small nuances.

On blotter, all I got was Dior Homme 2020 with a strong tea note (not coffee) and liquorice. Very astringent and a solid pass.

Opening is weird. But drydown = soft coffee + soft licorice + Terre d'Hermes woody mineral DNA. Very elegant.

I wasn’t expecting anything worse than Intense Vetiver, but yeah, here we are. A synthetic mess. Only the opening does its job. Terrible

Affreux. Au bout de 20 minutes seulement il laisse entrevoir le géranium de l’original. Au moins C. Nagel n’a pas peur des parti pris
