Interesting Facts
The care and cosmetics label "Yardley of London" (short "Yardley") is one of the oldest brands in its industry. The traditional company pairs its pristine reputation with impressive experience.
The company was founded as early as 1770 by the Cleaver couple. However, the foundation remains a burning issue. Some speculate that the brand could be even older but can't prove it because the documents were burnt in 1666. After the brand went bankrupt, William Yardley acquired everything in 1823 and continued the brand under different variations of the name "Yardley". The products sold at that time were mainly soaps, perfumed waters, creams, and pomades. Through several typically British motifs (castles, personalities, etc.) "Yardley" created a deep attachment to the island.
The entire 19th century was very successful for the label. Then, in the early 20th century, "Yardley" received permission to name individual items after members of the royal family. This increased the brand's popularity and allowed it to expand and prosper further. Simultaneously, "Yardley" has always remained true to its most notable ingredient: Lavender.
The end of the 20th century was less successful for "Yardley". Following several attempts to bounce back in the market, they were unsuccessful and led the label to declare bankruptcy in 1998.
Initially, it was acquired by a family of entrepreneurs then finally landed to "Wipro" - an international network of companies from India after several detours.
Nowadays, the label's product range includes body care articles, the finest fragrances, perfumes, soaps, oral care articles, and talcum powder.

An 80s staple
Yardley's Pure Silk (not to be confused with Mayfair's later version) is a powerful 80s oakmoss based floral chypre. The florals have a strong spicy undertone, however, the florals fused so perfectly together, I personally find it hard to pick out any individual...
