Interesting Facts
Every perfume tells a story. Thierry Wasser remains true to this statement with each of his new creations. However, the head perfumer of Guerlain also writes history himself. After all, he was the first "nose" in the traditional Guerlain house in the 190 years of its existence. But the Swiss-born designer does not feel any pressure at all. His career began after dropping out of school and then seeking an internship in a drugstore - this, in return, helped him discover his love for fragrances later on. His next stop was training as a perfumer at the Swiss cadre Givaudan. In 1993, he moved to Firmenich, where he worked for nine years in its New York branch, then in 2002, Paris. Since 2008, he has worked for Guerlain as an in-house perfumer.

Thierry Wasser quickly learned his most important lesson there: no perfume from Guerlain can achieve perfection without the legendary "guerlinade." The base bouquet is part of every fragrance creation and consists of bergamot, rose, iris, tonka, and vanilla. He ignored this principle in his first fragrance "Idylle", which was launched in 2009, but this was to remain a one-off experiment. Since then, he can call a great number of creations his own. For Guerlain he created, among others:

Quand Vient La Pluie
Iris Ganache
Idylle
Aqua Allegoria: Flora Nymphea
La Petite Robe Noire
L'Homme Ideal
Mon Guerlain

Other highlights of his work so far include:

Man absolute, Jil Sander
Hypnosis, Lancôme
Addict, Christian Dior
Fuel for Life for Her, Diesel

The chief perfumer likes to carefully take care of the most important ingredient of each fragrance by himself. His visits to raw material suppliers on-site around the world are an important part of his work. The "pragmatic poet," as he calls himself with a twinkle in his eye, sees the personal bond as the basis of the success story that each of his fragrances carries. His personal favorite, Bulgarian Rose, is an important companion in this. Thierry Wasser is a perfumer with every fiber of his body - each new fragrance must first pass the self-test on him before he is allowed to proceed with others.
