Lemonhead candy with spices
I rarely blind-buy full bottles anymore (mistakes made in the beginning of my journey did cost me a lot). I've had the occasion of testing Bergamote Calabria a few times in-store by spraying it on my wrist. Never had a sample or a travel size before buying the full bottle. This is the second Aqua Allegoria to make it in my collection.
Bergamote Calabria opens with a sweet, almost candy-like lemon, sort of like a lemon drop or a Lemonhead candy. It's slightly fizzy (sour), sweet, fruity and just so pleasant. I felt like emptying the bottle all over me and bathing in it. Energizing, uplifting, gives me a smile everytime I spray it on. After a few minutes, it slowly evolves into this more mature citrusy scent where the sweetness is toned down in favor of a subtle spicy tinge. It's refined elegant, discreet, but also sensual in it's own way. Inoffensive, but great a perfume for those who want to smell citrusy. Bergamot stays the star throughout the perfume, but the spices in there help to elevate everything. I could detect ginger above all else, though there was the enjoyable presence of petitgrain. I did not really smell any cardamom, but at the same time I'm a little bit less accustomed to this spice. Everything ends up slowly fading away into a soft citrusy-musky scent.
I do deplore the fact that it doesn't last as long as I want it to (which is one of the reasons why I bought a Forte version of another Aqua Allegoria perfume). It doesn't take that long before becoming a skin scent which makes it perfect for wearing a perfume that'll fade right before you go in scent-sensitive spaces. Great for summer and warmer weather, I'll be enjoying my bottle with the hope that Guerlain will, one day, transform this in a Forte version where the citrus will want to play longer on my skin.
