wet: peppery start fades into a laundry accord, of sorts -- although im not acquainted with the other popular points of reference, it's strongly reminiscent of C. smells nothing like #Hashtag, despite sharing two top notes.

dry: a soft and light clean-laundry scent. very synthetic, but not in a screechy way. i sampled this because orris is a prominent note but i think i dont like clean-laundry scents unless there's something else to it (Aria Perfume Oil is one ive been enjoying). low sillage and projection -- maybe a few inches off the wrist. color impression is #e4ecf5.

30 min in: laundry-ness is fading and the scent is becoming a bit more fresh and green from the bamboo. this actually makes things worse, as the freshness clashes with the laundry-ness and i just simply do not like this. it's a good scent if you like clean scents, i guess. unisex, office-friendly. this scent is not for me, so maybe the $310 for 87mL ratio will be acceptable to someone else, but even if i loved it i could personally never fathom paying that much.

2 hours in: far more fresh than clean now, although the whole thing is essentially fading. no orris to be found anywhere.

I like aquatic sport scents, I like fresh green fragrances, and I definitely enjoy white musk cream creations. Mix all three together and you get various shades of "clean scents," my catch-all term for everything from fabric softener to bar soap to laundry pearls. This is by no means negative! You smell super clean and fresh.

Synthetic is also not a bad thing; I'm used to working in a chemistry lab, I even sniff acrylics :D Per Se hits you with a load of aldehydes and violets in the opening sequence, wow, that tickles the nose. Prickly! Associations with pear brandy. Together with the pepper duo, it forms a highly "stimulating" pair, including sneezing fits. As I blink and catch my breath, I briefly evaluate whether I can wash off this punch or if I have to endure it, since the value of one spray could sustain half a village in Angola for two months. The latter - mhh, too bad, so I have to endure.

After 10 minutes, my nose slowly dares to approach my arm again. The sharpness gradually decreases, and a wonderful fresh (slightly green) bamboo, which brings a bit of aquatic tropical feeling, makes its way alongside lily of the valley (? okay, flowers, not further defined). Powdery iris? Not a chance. I like it, and it becomes increasingly pleasant and milder over time.

The base is then nice, really nice! I like angelica very much from the Cloon Keen fragrances, and the combo with not too much musk/ambrette cuddles the still somewhat prickly remaining aldehydes (stubborn as ever!) just right. Nevertheless, the scent remains more fresh than creamy on my skin. More like laundry detergent than body lotion.

Per Sē feels incredibly familiar to me during the transition from heart note to base. It is not quite as Persil/laundry detergent clean as The Muse or "Blanche (Eau de Parfum) | Byredo," and also not as soft-rosy as "Couleur Primaire / Exemplaire Unique | Les Eaux Primordiales." There is a certain similarity to "Clean Reserve H₂Eau Collection - Musk Noir | Clean" or Musk Memento (more lavender here). However, the longevity of Per Sē is significantly better in both cases!

Off to the bathroom and to sniff the cleaning cabinet - ha! Kuschelweich fabric softener in blue, I knew it! The one with the little bear! Maybe a bit of the white Lenor added, and done.

Did I mention the price for this clean synthetic creation? Antiproportional to the visually reduced bottle... *gasp* For that, you can add a lot of fabric softener very generously to your laundry, additionally shower with it (probably rather unhealthy), and still use the rest as a room fragrance. I will use up this bottle and not misuse it as a laundry scent; I'm too stingy for that. However, it won't find a place in my collection, as there are more pleasing alternatives at more reasonable prices. You have to keep the church in the laundry room, eh, in the village.

That Girl, who gets up at 5:30 AM to hit the gym before work. That Girl, who has no pores because she has studied the perfect skincare routine. That Girl, who drinks at least 2.5 liters of water daily and does her mental health meditation with perfectly brewed, just-right tea before going to bed at 9:00 PM in freshly made white sheets without her smartphone.

That Girl has it all together. Her appearance is always flawless. She always has the best solution for every challenge. She stands tall, and her nails are always perfectly manicured and polished. She never says the wrong thing and makes no mistakes. And she smells good in "Per Sē | 27 87 Perfumes."

I know, no one is infallible. Not even That Girl. But for me to like this scent, I really have to love the person wearing it with all their quirks and flaws.

The opening is a typically powdery-clean scent, like many of its kind. Synthetic iris freshness. I often read associations like: freshly washed, white laundry, clean, soap under such fragrances.

And it stays that way.

No major development.
No surprises.
No interesting twists.

A white bed sheet without stains.
A canvas without colors.
A blank sheet of paper.

Per Sē is the alibi you need when you've made a faux pas. To appear particularly harmless and innocent, you wear it....
...at the birthday party where you slept with your best friend's cousin's boyfriend.
...the day after the company party because you threw up in the wine cooler during your table dance in front of everyone.
...at the family gathering where you don't talk about feelings, but about your new job (yes, the one with the company party).

It hides everything. Per Sē conceals everything under that white bed sheet.

Per Sē only works for me if a fallible figure like a mom (my mom) or the best friend (my best friend) wears it. When I know that the person wearing it has sharp edges and flaws that I can bump against. Then I might like it. Because then this scent is, for me, an ironic tribute to infallibility.

Noble, clean, comforting

For me, a dreamy, clean scent! The pepper, the iris butter, the soft musk.... Wonderful. A noble synthetic that gives the fragrance great longevity. I feel incredibly comfortable with this scent. Luckily, it is never soapy or sharp at any point! Soft, white, just perfect to snuggle into.

Fresh, synthetic, timeless

Another clean, fresh laundry scent. Per Se has been available since 2023. The nose behind this perfume is Shyamala Maisondieu. I have a similar scent from 27 87: Genetic bliss. The brand was founded in 2016 by the German designer Romy Kowalewski, based in Barcelona. The name "27 87" refers to the geographical coordinates of Formentera, which serves as a source of inspiration for the founder's fragrances. Per Se, from Latin per sē "by itself," is meant to be not just a scent, but a sensual experience.
Per Se is elegant and clean. The combination of aldehydes and plant/floral notes with musk makes it both fresh and sensual.
Similar to Marc Jacobs Cotton, Valjues Twelve, Nothing but sea and sky, Clean Reserve fragrances, Blanche by Byredo, Shiro by Masaki, Floating by Liis, Santal Super, etc.
Per Se radiates calm. The airy, watery quality is always a safe bet for me in the fragrance world; I've never had a bad purchase in this scent category. There is a certain similarity to the Paper Soap by J-Scent. Clean girl vibe: mentally organized, yoga, hot tea, she has her life together, nails always perfectly manicured, everything relaxed and timeless. It starts with a synthetic iris-fresh note, which I really like.
No great development, which I also love. I often fall in love with the fleeting top notes that disappear after 10 minutes. Per Se conceals all flaws and can disappear under a white bed sheet. Fresh, woody, and at the same time sensual. Also suitable for fresh moms. Innocence. I also smell L'Eau Papier by Diptyque here.
It has something of a sublime, bright, feminine elegance, aware of its value, somewhat aloof. I like green fresh scents and white musk cream scents anyway. Per Se smells clean, elegant, and fresh. Yes, also synthetic, and I like that; the opening with aldehydes and violet is great! I also particularly enjoy black pepper in fragrances. Bamboo provides the green note, in the dry down more fresh than creamy, despite ambrette. In the end, I still smell The Muse. Also a bit like Lenor fabric softener.
Noble synthetic with great longevity. Light, clean. Transparent and airy. If you want to smell fresh without green. I find the price exaggerated; Shiro costs three times less and is just as good.
