Forgettable Musk

This fragrance starts soft, sweet, and creamy. Something that makes you feel like you are walking around with your favorite blanket or sweater, comforting. It has a lot of promise. Then it does nothing. The scent doesn't evolve, doesn't project after a few minutes, and nothing stands out. I even forgot that I was even wearing a fragrance today. Its a $150 for 50ml and in my opinion that is too much.

Musky, sweet, meh

I got this in a swap and had never smelled it before. I'm a fan of Aerin fragrances and everyone seemed to rave about this one, so I took a chance. Ugh, no. Not for me. It's light and soft, but the scent itself is very musky and sickly sweet edging on animalic. To be honest, I had just gotten a decant of DS&Durga's I Don't Know What, and it ruined Amber Musk for me. They are similar, and the animalic civet note in IDKW is all I can smell in Amber Musk. It's also present in Clean Skin. I typically like musky scents, but it's funny how one fragrance with an unpleasant note all of a sudden highlights similar profiles in other perfumes! Bah!

Amber Musk

Amber Musk is a very powdery fragrance. It’s light and calming. I don’t smell any coconut, only baby powder and floral. I can’t discern the rose at first, but they poke up their heads after a short time. The rose is subtle and doesn’t ask for attention. The musk is a bit more obvious.

This perfume is nice, but flat. I normally wouldn’t pay their asking price for it except the bottle is beautiful and this IS a great sleeping perfume.

So radiant and pure that it hurts.

Unfortunately, I can only dream of a “fluffy musk fabric softener” and a “cozy, comforting feel-good scent” with this perfume, because right after I smelled “Amber Musk,” the (until then) impossible happened: I got a headache.

I have often read about so-called “headache scents,” but I have never fallen victim to one myself - but there is, as we know, a first time for everything.

If I had to describe “Amber Musk” in a few words, it would be “radiantly white.” I choose this description very deliberately, as I simply cannot distinguish the individual fragrance components - I am literally olfactorily blinded.

While the scent does not contain any citrus notes, it has something of that (excessive) purity that is often characteristic of such fragrances and makes me think of dish or cleaning products. Although “Amber Musk” gains a bit of warmth on my skin after about 30 minutes due to the musk, which I can now smell more clearly, it is unfortunately not enough to make the scent pleasant for me. I do not perceive this perfume as floral or sweet in the slightest, but simply as very pure. I always thought I liked these clean scents very much; however, I apparently did not know how clean a scent can smell - I am now wiser!

Conclusion:
Anyone who is a fan of absolutely clean scents will most likely love “Amber Musk” by Aerin, and I envy all the wearers who will become the queens of musk fabric softener with this scent - unfortunately, I will only become the queen of toilet cleaner.

Like a Winter Day in Paris

I smelled this wonderful creamy, well-groomed fragrance for the first time in December eight years ago in the perfume department of Galeries Lafayette in Paris.
Still completely captivated by the festively decorated Christmas tree and the impressive dome of the department store, I strolled past the sales counters when a friendly saleswoman offered me Amber Musk to try. While the Goutal fragrance I also tested didn’t convince me at all, my nose kept wandering back to my wrist throughout the day to smell this delightful scent.

Since then, the fragrance has been my faithful companion during the winter months year after year, sending me on a scent journey back to Paris on that radiant, festive winter day just before Christmas Eve.

The fragrance doesn’t have a significant development on me, with a moderate and very wearable sillage. After about 5 hours, it gradually fades away, leaving behind a light, finely creamy musk trail.
