Safer saffron for those who aren't generally a fan

I've been exploring saffron as a note; I generally dislike it and find it to be too sharp. After the first 5-15 minutes of stinging saffron opening, where I was feeling I might have another dud, this turned into a lovely scent. Softer and brighter with the neroli and ylang-ylang, this surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. I wouldn't purchase a full bottle, but don't regret my 5mL purchase. I have not been able to detect any black tea. The tannins are too close in nature to the saffron for me. If it were more noticeable, this would be a much more interesting scent. So far the scents I've tried from Affinessence have been quite hit or miss. Santal Basmati seems to be the gem of the house.
