Dark Coca-Cola-ish musk
Al Haramain’s Musk al Ghazal is obviously not real deer musk, but still, it is quite a decent option for when you want a hit of ‘black’ musk without the heavy, fecal facets of some dark musks on the market. It opens cool and herbal, with a Coca-Cola undertone. Some people may even be tempted to call this chocolatey, but in truth, it is too sharp and herbal to qualify for that descriptor. It is musky but in a clean, uber-fresh way, a smidgen of hospital soap lurking at its corners. Once the fruity anise and caraway notes bank down, the musk becomes deeper and woodier. It would make for a good layering agent under sweet ambers and gourmands to give them depth, or as a standalone musk attar for men who like their musks dark, woody, and herbal instead of sweet or powdery. Perfectly serviceable, really, under the circumstances.

In the Wake of the Sheikh
Musk Al Ghazal pleases me so much that I want to leave a short comment about it.
From what I have tested so far from Al Haramain, I had the impression that these are cheap fragrances that aren't even worth their low price, as they become forgotten in the collection. Better to have one good perfume than ten of that kind.
I am all the more surprised that I really like this one. The progression is absolutely linear. The scent is soft, creamy, floral, a bit citrusy, and has the right sweetness. Intensity and longevity are perfectly fine. It reminds me a lot of the cloud I often experienced in Dubai when a traditionally dressed Arab walked in front of me. That was also the trigger for my ongoing search for the perfect musk since then. Musk Al Ghazal is definitely already at the forefront here.
I am curious when Western perfumers will jump on this bandwagon after the Oud wave, hopefully soon.

Thank you very much for this lovely sample.

Rose-Oud - classic yet different...
Musk Al Ghazal does not necessarily deliver what the name promises. In the background, there is a dark-sweet-animalic note that one might attribute to musk, but it feels too diffuse for me to clearly categorize it. On the surface, I perceive this Al Haramain as a rose-oud fragrance. Somehow medicinal, dark, and opulent, it also has soft and cuddly notes that carry everything. You can definitely notice cumin, which I quite like. A distinctive scent, albeit very classic at the same time, that gives me the impression of borrowing from classic oriental Mukhallats but also aims to appeal to fans of Western medicinal rose-oud fragrances; one wonders if that can work. Overall quite nice and wearable, but for me, it wouldn't be a must-have; I think there are more elegant interpretations of this rather classic theme, which has little to do with the name.

Raspberry etc Notes are wrong. This is cacaoish cumin and musk.

Woody spicy musk with oud and cumin note, which (unfortunately) drowns the rose. Loud and animalistic.

Behind the heavy musk curtain peeks a chocolate note. Slightly bitter. Along with a hint of leather. Expressively oriental.

Great musk scent, soft and comforting. The rose doesn’t interfere. True Oriental.

Distinctive, bold EdP (spray) with fresh-spicy, easily wearable animal-chocolate notes that transition into an appealing soapiness.

It seems that a leather was used in the MAG that had been soaked in water for days and then not properly dried - mold!
