Enchanted forest ..sigh
Falling stars at Winter Solistice
Description from alkemia shop
___________________________
Walking into a wooded clearing,
you look up in wonder at thousands of stars across the darkened sky.
Suddenly, a falling star streaks across the sky,
so low, you can almost touch it. Catch your breath. Make a wish.

Aromatic balsam needles, a dab of dark musk,
sweet myrrh, incense resins, melted snow,
and a touch of cabin woodstove smoke.

Solstice alchemy
On the day of the summer solstice, when the outside temperature is almost 30°, writing a review of a fragrance that focuses on the winter solstice - that is admittedly presumptuous. But I don't want to wait another six months, as a hiking package wants to move on. And the "Midsummer Alchemy", which the Alkemia label would of course also have on offer (with over 600 fragrances, there should actually be something suitable for every day of the calendar, every weather, every occasion...), is not in the package. So here we go!

You don't have to sit in the sun. Even now, in June, there are cool rooms. A cathedral would be fitting, because this is a resinous incense fragrance. This is more than clear from the first sniff of the opened vial. And this first impression is actually very nice: cool incense, bright and fresh, not at all warm, not at all inappropriate on this warm day. Needle resins of balsam fir (Abies balsamea) will contribute to this impression. Something ethereal, almost menthol-like resonates. On the skin, however, an alkemia note quickly returns to the background and the incense resins become somewhat warmer. Perhaps the slightly sweet opoponax comes through more. This is joined by a spiciness that is not quite conclusive from the pyramid, but which now actually exudes something Christmassy and wintry, which unfortunately goes a little beyond the scope here. Perhaps it was foolhardy to do this in midsummer after all. It's a shame about the fragrance - although I don't really like Christmas magic in winter either. The wood smoke listed would have been most welcome in a more pronounced form, but remains restrained, barely perceptible. Unfortunately, I can't imagine the "snow" that is also listed, and there is nothing that would trigger an aha effect. No coke either (although I probably wouldn't recognize that either).

I would have been curious about the eponymous shooting stars and some other reviewers seem to have experienced corresponding effects here. Shooting stars, lightning bolts, fireflies - whatever you want to call it, there are fragrances like this in which individual notes emerge and light up unexpectedly and crystal clear. But to enjoy it, I would probably have had to wait until the Perseids in August, because unfortunately the fragrance is not of that caliber. What must be acknowledged, however, is that the longevity is very good compared to other fragrances from the house.

I will probably continue to smell the vial from time to time, quite with pleasure, then pass it on and give someone else a chance to appreciate the fragrance under more favorable circumstances, perhaps at the winter solstice.

Thanks to BeJot, again!

Berntropfen sleeping on snowcovers in pine fog anaesthesia
What are you doing in the woods this time of year, the winter solstice? The shadows of the day's past, the light coming to an end so early, the horizon shimmers dim dark blue still through shadow columns of trunks, blankets of snow really dampen any sound. Aren't you trying to get away?
Dazed by eucalyptic mists of narcotic fir needles, you stare into the dark at surreal patterns, breathing the menthol-cooled smell of snow. A thin cloth still sleeps over all this, from far away incense wafts like a promise to you, of security and warmth. Half an hour you stand like this, rooted between the trees, before Bernschnuppen begin to fall from the sky, as in impressionistic dreams.
These burst in fog now musk, dark red spicy and warming, mix under the firn heavy myrrh resin, projecting herb sweets. A little later then you smell a distant fire perhaps coming from a log cabin, but you linger in the musk fir resin, four five hours escaping the truth, remembering in spring, cooling in summer, throwing its shadows in autumn - on the winter, in which at the solstice Berntropfen sleep on snow covers.
