Heart of Gold
"Dark" is anything but dark.
This is a bright, vivacious, fruity rose. In my mind's eye I can see it, generously petalled in full bloom, canary yellow in the centre blending into soft white with blushes of Barbie pink on the tips of its petals. I have come across roses such as these (I believe the variety is called Heart of Gold) that boast a lively lemon scent; the opening notes of Dark match perfectly. Alongside this, a peach-like accord develops. The apple tones and tempers the combined rose/citrus/peachy juiciness, at least for the first hour. On a warm, sunny day, however, the fruity notes did become overpowering and my flirty floral frolic began to feel more like a dip in fruit punch. I almost expected my wrists to turn sticky!
I look forward to testing this again on a cooler day in the hopes that the cool green apple can maintain order for longer, but for now, it's a bit too much for me.

Dark garden
Today I tested DARK from Andrea Maack. I am amused and disappointed.
It has two miracles. First is a quite spacing, cold and grave fragrance, I could not describe it preciously, but it is dignified as a midnight procession of a beautiful vampire. Second stage heap you with the beautiest of rose and orange blossom. Here comes the disappointment: I used an original tester in the shop with spray, and was not careful or moderate, I used the tester generously, and even so, after 1,5 hours it is hardly detectable. I think I found my pure and clear flowery fragrance, but if I would buy a full bottle, it would be used up within 2-3 months.

Perfect Partner
Oh, yes, this is it, this fragrance. Because it cannot be categorized. It does not want to be forced into a category. It wants to be independent. It tolerates no dissent. It aims to stand out from the mass of mediocrity. And it succeeds effortlessly.
I find it difficult again to pick out the individual components of the three fragrance levels, but the composition is more than successful.
The name "Dark" does not fit at all with the scent note, which, while not overflowing with spring or summer cheerfulness, also does not evoke a sentimental-depressive mood. Perhaps a bit too heavy for hot summer days, but not so heavy that headaches could be a concern. Overall, "Dark" is a calm and soothing fragrance. A gentle mood lifter, not a loud entertainer. I like it. Very much.

Dark, out of the
Dark means:
- dark, gloomy, dim, lightless, murky, shadowy
- indistinct, secret, unknown
- joyless
Dark smells:
- like none of that.

But imagine you have a broken heart, your mother has told you to pay more attention to your figure, your favorite perfume, which is no longer produced, has finally run out, and your cat has died. You are deeply, deeply sad. What do you need the most?
A friend!
A friend who tells you that the guy is a loser and will die alone of the plague, unlike you, that you wouldn’t be as wonderfully sensual if you were any thinner, and that you have always been smarter and more mature than your mother. A friend who helps you draft a petition to bring the fragrance back into production and gives a funny farewell speech for your cat.
And when you’ve cried it all out, she buckles you into the car and takes you on a trip:

A rose garden in summer. A path of white mosaic stones leads to a bench in a shady arbor, overgrown with fully bloomed roses. It is hot and humid, and you drink a refreshing orange juice with lots of ice cubes that clink against the glass.

Fruity-crisp, refreshing orange rose. That is Dark, the friend who shows you the way out of darkness, gives you hope and confidence, and makes the life-affirming sunny side appealing again.

Rose and orange unfold simultaneously and together create something new that makes the rose wearable for younger women (but not only). The metallic notes have nothing to do with those from Craft; they merely provide the ice-cube-refreshing kick. Aldehydes are, as far as I understand, the HD-TV of perfumery, polishing the molecules to a high shine. This applies here. I usually don’t like pepper in perfumes, but here it is used very subtly as support; without pepper, the fragrance might lack a bit of “artistic depth,” although Dark remains practical for everyday wear and well-rounded (unlike some other Maack fragrances).
After about half an hour, the aldehydes pull back, it becomes a bit powdery, and the fragrance loses some of its extrovertedness. Nevertheless, the orange rose remains crisp-fresh until the end.

At ALzD, this pyramid is listed:
Top notes: Aldehydes, mandarin, petitgrain, orange blossom
Heart notes: Apple, metallic notes, violet, pink pepper, rose
Base notes: Amber, woods, leather, Virginia cedarwood

At the spray head and very close to the skin, Dark sometimes reminds me a bit of sticky-sweet elderflower syrup, which isn’t quite as nice. But in the sillage (and that’s what matters, right?), it is as described above and really a recommendation for summer!
That Dark only receives 62 percent here, I cannot understand; for me, it’s 80%.

And 110% for all friends! ;o)

DARK? Yes, because that's Iceland as a scent: Northern lights, cool, treeless, modern, clear, pure, windy, cold - and thus darker than you think!

Rose with Granny Smith, nothing more. Dark? Nope, cool metallic, Silver would fit.

I turned on the light in the bathroom. There’s Darth Vader with a bouquet of flowers singing. Turned the light off again. He's singing in the Dark.

Rose + pomegranate + Granny Smith. All frozen and served with sharp iron. But dark? Nope.

Polished steel with rose oil, cuts apples in icy cold,
the head aches.
The scent is repellent, cold, lifeless.

The scent showcases a dominant metallic rose from the start, complemented by fruity notes, but the latter get overshadowed.
