Salty watermelon and sheer white florals
Solstice is a little bit of magic. It opens with fresh watermelon that is made even fresher with salty marine notes. Peeking through this opening are fuzzy white florals that lean a bit lighter but still sweet with violet. As it dries, you get a hint of warmth and more freshness via amber and musks. The overall effect is sheer watery white floral that feels cooling to the nose. A perfect fragrance for a warm summer day on a boat.

Green watermelon rinds and jasmine
Honestly I shouldn’t enjoy this. I’m not a fan of clean musks and melon/calone can be a death note.

But! The watermelon rind and sweet simple florals in this are perfect. It has been a hot; erm the hottest summer…one of the ways I tried to help our backyard chickens through it is by freezing watermelon rind chunks.

This really captures the feeling of those chicken-popsicles for me; cool clean chunks of icy watermelon rind immediately melting in the blazing heat.

The violet-heavy green skin scent dry down has incredible longevity too.

This is not a sugary sweet melon, there’s no pink here. She is cold, fresh and green.

Gentle Warm Rays of the Midnight Sun at the North Sea
The fragrance starts with incredible freshness, thanks to the watermelon, also with fruity sweetness, without being overly sweet. It exudes a wonderfully pleasant lightness and warmth that I love to wear on my skin.
The freshness from the top notes (logically) diminishes over time, and what captivated me about the scent at first becomes less pronounced - yet it remains pleasant and detectable for a long time.

For me, the perfume does not symbolize a typical Iceland - but when I imagine the gentle, soft, warm, and calming light of the solstice by the sea, sitting in the grass, we get closer to the essence (and the name).

Nordic Spring
The spring air blooms with the first signs of life after a long, harsh winter cold. The sunrise paints the landscape in pale moss green pastels, highlighting the emergence of life after the darkness of the winter season. This is also true for the fragrance "Solstice" by Andrea Maack, a creation that captures the moment we awaken from winter slumber.

This special fragrance composition was created by Julien Rasquinet, a renowned perfumer whose work I have long admired. His previous masterpieces, such as "The Moon | Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle," "Enclave | Amouage," and "Royal Oud | Creed," drew my attention to this new scent. In fact, it was during my trip to Iceland, the birthplace of this brand, that I first learned about the fragrance.

Iceland, a country with its own unique seasonal logic and weather conditions, has undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping this perfume. It is not the sweet, warm spring experienced in temperate zones, but a robust, cool, Nordic spring. A spring that defies the harsh winter cold and blooms gracefully and strongly. Solstice conveys this feeling with remarkable finesse and a touch of mystery.

The top notes of this fragrance, watermelon, violet, lily of the valley, and jasmine, are undeniably fresh and floral, a bouquet that rests on the skin like a breath of spring breeze. The base notes of amber and licorice provide a pleasant contrast that remains in the background, creating a warm, sweet echo.

Interestingly, in the last 20 years, a new generation of perfumes has emerged that features a completely different structure, a style closely associated with the work of Sophia Grojsman. Instead of a multitude of components, only four or five are used in a simple accord that makes up to 80% of the formula. Around this simple structure, other materials are arranged to provide the richness and complexity necessary to complete the identity of the perfume. Although these creations may not reach the aesthetic quality of perfumes from yesterday, their scent remains constant and unchanged from the first appearance to many hours on the skin. Solstice is a perfect example of this modern approach.

In essence, Solstice is a unisex perfume, although it undeniably has a feminine touch. Spring itself is a season of rebirth and renewal, often associated with femininity. Thus, a fragrance is created that captures the delicate breath of awakening, an awakening that feels like picking fresh flowers or feeling the gentle warmth of the morning sun on the skin. Solstice is, as its name suggests, a tribute to the solstice, the longest day of the year that marks the beginning of summer. But for me, it is clearly spring - a Nordic, robust spring that celebrates the power and beauty of nature.

Fresh green watermelon. Very realistic. Not too sweet. Subtle floral and marine notes to round it out. Great for summer.

Really nice green watermelon, with florals playing a supporting role. Probably best suited to someone with a feminine persuasion.

It has a nice fruity/floral opening. I get the lily of the valley and jasmine scent, but sadly it didn't last long on me at all :(

Heavy on the violets and lily of the valley. Watermelon barely comes through.

I'm riding the melon calone wave and landing in the lily of the valley. How lovely! Deep sea freshness and sweet aquatic notes give me summer vibes.

It started with chewed green grass, but then it switched to melon - oh wait, look, there are flowers growing out! Funny....

Gentle like watermelon, fresh like lily of the valley, with a hint of violet sharpness. A perfume like a waking winter creature. Spring magic in Iceland.

Very fresh because of watermelon and sea. The amber makes it very warm. And there are delicious flowers in the middle.

Fruity, fresh, floral. Starts with melon, marine notes, then a bit of musk, hairspray, laundry detergent. If you don't like that, better not buy!

Here, two worlds collide: a fruity-sweet-floral combination of lily of the valley and violet with a soft touch of melon. Great spring scent!
