Linear Rose Bomb
My first impressions of this scent isn't exactly great. Rose fragrances are a dime a dozen so most of the time it's a been there and done that scenario. This fragrance is no different as it is a rose bomb that is pretty linear to me so I was really disappointed. I think the whole Rose themed fragrances is way overdone at this point especially Rose and Oud combinations. This one reminded me of Mancera Black to Black but if I am going to pick one I would go with the Mancera before this one and not only from a price point perspective but a fragrance one. I am going to let my bottle macerate as some of the Argos fragrances get better with age and the individual notes become more pronounced.

If you are a fan of rose fragrances definitely get a sample but I would pick one of the Zaharoff Rose offerings or the Mancera Black to Black before this one.

With Sparkling Eyes
Charon means in German, with sparkling eyes.
The term originates from both Greek and Roman mythology and captures the figure of the old and gloomy ferryman who transports the dead across the river to the realm of the underworld for a fee. To Hades.

An interesting and very challenging name for a fragrance.
How should one represent such a figure in a scent, especially to wear it for show?

Charon's veil, however, has nothing to do with dark accents. Not at all is the fragrance grumpy. Not even warm. Not burning. And certainly not sparkling. Unfortunately, the bottle does not match the content either. One expects power, fire, and something forbidden, but unfortunately, one receives a plastic rose scent that one could comfortably wear to the everyday choir at the local church.

But let’s start from the beginning. I am greeted by a rather hissing rose right upon application, which comes with a rough texture in the background, as if it had risen like a phoenix from the ashes. The rough texture consists of leather and soggy, watery notes. Leather, pushed through the river and washed off a bit of everyday dirt. To the gate of the underworld. Yes, that could fit if one brings Charon on board. Literally.

Over time, the fragrance becomes extremely dull, almost clumsy. The rose is very plastic, stuttering, not even remotely flowing, enveloping both the heart and the soul of the scent. It appears sweetly lovely on the edge, slightly woody, minimally cumbersome. A hint of damp earth also lingers in the fragrance, making the whole thing even less exciting and more lost. I can still perceive a bit of pepper, but after a while, everything sinks into a fog soaked with plastic roses.

What else can I say? For me, it is undoubtedly the absolute worst Argos. I don’t see the fragrance on women at all. Not on men either. Perhaps a bit more, as it seems so dull. But many things here do not harmonize. Rose has often been a difficult topic for me, and here it kicks me out completely because it doesn’t even remotely smell good. Everything feels so lost, like the poor souls being transported in the boat.

Only the longevity and the sillage are worth mentioning. It lasts. Although it is dull, it is very present. The design of the bottle may be bold and interesting, but that’s about it.

Smells very close to Oud Ispahan Esprit de Parfum ! Soft rose with prominent oud, which is not animal.

A more masculine version of Portrait of a Lady. Darker, deeper, rose bomb. Sillage is insane

Rose and oud combo which has been done to death and better - Portrait of a lady, Oud Satin Mood, Royal Santal to name a few.

Flames red as roses rage at the banks of the Styx. Saffron threads weave through the dark water. Charon in his agarwood boat. A successful rose-oud!*

Rose/Oud for those who don't always want floral or animalistic, but creamy and ultra-fine. This is perfection.

Juicy dark rose, with a somehow slightly metallic note and animalic (dirty) oud.

Bloody rose-oud scent that actually has a metallic touch due to the lacquer note. Over time, I notice civet, which makes it intriguing.

Instead of two silver coins, there are roses for Charon to cross the Styx. On the boat, adorned with cedar and sandalwood, there’s an oud torch.

The opening is actually a bit too rosy for me, but in the drydown, it all comes together. I didn't warm up to the scent right away, but now I like it!

Animalistic oud with a very beautiful rose. Unfortunately, not for me as I don’t like animalistic oud. H/S is very good though.
