Only challenging for a fragrance newbie
I was preparing for the worst with Nemean Lion. The only other Argos scent that I have gotten my nose on, Triumph of Bacchus Eau de Parfum wasn't to my taste, and Nemean Lion has been described as most people as very difficult to enjoy. But, as an avid experimenter, these reviews intrigued me, as did the ridiculous "21+" warnings on Argos' site. How crazy is this scent?
Not actually that crazy, it turns out. And quite beautiful too. The main base is an oud/leather. I kind of see it like a cross between Le Gemme - Onekh and Opus XV - King Blue. It has a bit of the fruitiness of King Blue in the opening, but not nearly as sweet. And it isn't as rough as Onekh heavy smoky labdanum/leather/oud. Honestly, I'd suggest Nemean Lion if Onekh was TOO aggressive for you, and I don't even consider that a challenging fragrance. Heck, it's made by a designer house.
I don't really get the "sweat" references, folks might be referring to the pine/oakmoss/labdanum combo in the opening, but it just smells rich and masculine to me.
Nemean Lion is a quality fragrance, especially for the price. Cheaper than both of the two I'm comparing it to, and I think the quality of ingredients holds up. All in all, a beautifully done oud/leather at a great price point.
