Only challenging for a fragrance newbie
I was preparing for the worst with Nemean Lion. The only other Argos scent that I have gotten my nose on, Triumph of Bacchus Eau de Parfum wasn't to my taste, and Nemean Lion has been described as most people as very difficult to enjoy. But, as an avid experimenter, these reviews intrigued me, as did the ridiculous "21+" warnings on Argos' site. How crazy is this scent?

Not actually that crazy, it turns out. And quite beautiful too. The main base is an oud/leather. I kind of see it like a cross between Le Gemme - Onekh and Opus XV - King Blue. It has a bit of the fruitiness of King Blue in the opening, but not nearly as sweet. And it isn't as rough as Onekh heavy smoky labdanum/leather/oud. Honestly, I'd suggest Nemean Lion if Onekh was TOO aggressive for you, and I don't even consider that a challenging fragrance. Heck, it's made by a designer house.

I don't really get the "sweat" references, folks might be referring to the pine/oakmoss/labdanum combo in the opening, but it just smells rich and masculine to me.

Nemean Lion is a quality fragrance, especially for the price. Cheaper than both of the two I'm comparing it to, and I think the quality of ingredients holds up. All in all, a beautifully done oud/leather at a great price point.

Hercules, Hercules, Hercules!
Nemean lion is a tale of two tapes. It takes you on a journey throughout its wearing, visiting ups and downs with ups coming on the dry down. This fragrance starts off very barnyard animalistic smelling. It’s a scent similar to very heavy ouds that resonate with middle eastern fragrances. It’s pungent, in your face, and very strong, but it has an addictive factor that had me coming back to it, where every 5 minutes, it started to tame itself, and reveal a desirable dry down worth being patient for.

To me the dry down settles down as a dark woody sweetness with hints of caramel on a sandalwood. It’s really nice. It last long too with a great and comfortable sillage. The dry down is wonderful.

Is this a 10/10? No, unfortunately not, and it’s fine, it doesn’t have to be. I’d rate this a solid 8/10. The opening is harsh, but it’s addictive, I can go through the opening over and over again because I know that dry down is rewarding.

Sample it if you can, and be patient with this one. Give it a full wearing and then make your assessment

Not Going to be Everyone's Cup of Tea
This is by far the most challenging Argos fragrance released to date and definitely different than TOB, Danaë, and Adonis Awakens. The opening to me was very off putting with a sharp, camphorous, resinous, animalistic, medicinal top notes of labdanum and oakmoss. After letting my bottle macerate for months I decided to try this one again and to my surprise some of the rough edges had softened and I enjoyed it much better than when I originally purchased it. Now is it my favorite from the house? No. Argos has so many great fragrances it would be hard to beat the ones I previously mentioned but I can see this one growing on me.

Only people who love dark foreboding leather type fragrances will appreciate this one and only suitable for very cold weather. Once it reaches the base notes it really turns into something special. In conclusion, I love this brand and the attention to details from the packaging to the wonderful bottles that are a work of art. This wasn't love at first sniff for me but it is an acquired taste and definitely got better after it macerated.

Sweat dripping off of Hercules after defeating a worthy adversary, he breathes heavily, omitting an aroma worthy of a Victorious God

The animalistic essence of the Nemean lion in a bottle.
Only a hero like Heracles can wear it.
For those who dare: A statement - Wow

The opening is brutally animalistic, with Oud and leather in the foreground. During the drydown, green notes come in and calm the scent.

for me, a mix of ombre nomade and le lion de chanel. oud on the edge of stable scent, but it still makes the turn. h+s top

That's how I imagine the scent of the lion's pelt that Heracles wears.....animalistic, earthy, dusty.
A work of art but somewhat wearable.

The first hour is exciting and complex, but then it quickly turns into a simpler, amber, sweet musk scent with a hint of oud.

Animalistic, resinous, smoky oud surrounded by woods, citrus, spice, and leather. It really does smell almost like an animal hide. Only conditionally wearable.

I don't really connect with the brand. Beautiful animalic notes at first, but it becomes a bit synthetic and slightly sweet in my opinion. Just average.
