The first victim of modernity I'm willing to recognize
This new Vent Vert broke my heart. In trying to fit in with modern perfumery styles, it sacrificed something beautiful.

My first impression is that this has a narcotic quality that I associate with a lot of florals involving tuberose. I'm captivated by that smell, to the point where I've been trying to figure out what aromachemical(s) is/are involved. The best way I can describe it is "clean cigarette ash." I wish the entire fragrance were this, it evokes an image of a no-nonsense femme/homme/themme fatale. That effect persists through the first half of the heart, which is still not long enough for me.

But allow me to backtrack. Still on the opening, the green-ness is ever so slightly sweet, but quickly becomes more darker, more serious, and more focused. The basil, spearmint, and galbanum (this fragrance has even made me tolerate galbanum!) come in to impart a vegetal quality while still allowing the blackcurrant and the mandarin to play. The jasmine sits in the background and watches, biding its time.

In the heart, the jasmine springs to action. All is well for a while until you realize it brought guests with it, and this is sadly where my "narcotic" effect starts dying out and is replaced with a creamy sweetness that persists all the way to the dry down. It's nowhere near overwhelmingly sweet, but its sweetness deployed a bit thoughtlessly, I assume to keep up with the times and not alienate customers who might be challenged by a persistently green/narcotic fragrance.

I'm a lover of sweet fragrances and I still wish this didn't go in that direction. It's still worthy of testing, and I'm sure I'll add it to my collection, but perhaps only as a travel size.

Juicy Green Skin Scent
This is a juicy green fragrance. Its like you are biting into a ripe berries while laying in a field of bright green grass in spring. There is a little bit of a "bubblegum" note in the beginning but that quickly dissipates. The floral notes slowly develop throughout the fragrance. You are left all day with a soft fresh and green fragrance that can be worn by anyone.

This lasted about 6 hours on my skin. As for projection, this is more of a skin scent but that is okay because fruity notes can be overwhelming in hot weather. The 50ml is $300 and while I like this fragrance a lot, I don't like it that much.

Green luxury that may not be worth the money but smells good!
### Intro (can also be skipped):
Most people probably know Balmain (pronunciation: Ball-ma) from one of the most successful H&M designer collaborations or simply because they are interested in French haute couture and luxury pret-a-porter fashion. Since Olivier Rousteing has been in charge of all design decisions, a lot has changed in the traditional house over the last thirteen years. Everything is younger, fresher, more extravagant. Only the price is still the same. If you're interested, you can browse through the online store https://de.balmain.com/ (but be careful, you're guaranteed to catch your breath not just because of the beautiful fashion).

Immediately after the news that Balmain wanted to revive and relaunch some classics and new fragrances on the market, I ordered the Discovery Set on the EU website https://www.balmainbeauty.eu/. The package arrived just one day later via UPS. So shipping was very fast. As with some high-end brands, the true sender is not written on the address label, only a service label, probably to prevent theft. Parcel opened, in typical Balmain style, elegant matt black filler paper with golden PB (Pierre Balmain; founder of the brand) sticker Inside then the Discovery Box and two extra 1.5ml additions Sel d'Ambre and Carbone (2024) which are both also found in the set. More helps more.
The set is in black glossy textured paper and golden Balmain logo. Also looks quite luxurious. Inside, the eight 1.5ml samples are lined up and secured in black foam.
The samples come without a cap but I haven't seen any samples for 1.5ml that have one. So now we come to the essentials:

### Fragrance:
Starts very intensely green, like fresh basil, green spicy galbanum and mandarin peel. The fragrance is also quite floral and the calypsone ozone is clearly evident. The floral notes can also be attributed to jasmine blossom. The musk envelops the fragrance in a white aura, making it smell very clean and slightly creamy. The musk-jasmine combination makes the fragrance appear very subtly sweet in the DD.
Overall a beautiful freshi. I like it.
However, the fragrance remains very stable in its development. I.e. don't expect a huge change between the top and heart notes. This probably indicates a rather synthetic formulation, but I can't say for sure.

### Longevity / Silage
The fragrance radiates quite strongly in the first 2 hours and decays linearly in the following 6 hours.

### Price performance
Uff... difficult. On the one hand, we have a very nice but possibly synthetic fragrance. I don't know. 50ml for 250€? I say no. However, that's also the original price and in a few months it might also be available at Notino etc. for 150€. That's where I personally see the fragrance. But even that, you have to want it... it's only 50ml. Due to the exclusivity of the brand, the fragrance must be priced so high. On the other hand, Hermès, another very exclusive brand, also offers some mainstream hits at incredibly good prices. I have no idea how to classify this. But it's better to start off expensive and then you can always look again. The other way around is rather difficult.

### Conclusion
Has Balmain succeeded in bringing the classic Vent Verte back to life? Unfortunately, I can't say, as I don't know the original. However, I am sure that the reinterpretation has undergone a rejuvenating treatment, similar to the fashion evolution of the house, with the simple and logical aim of reaching its own clientele.
In my opinion, I find the fragrance an interesting change and worth a try. Within the new collection, this one is the most pleasing with the highest complimentary potential. A few other fragrances in the range are quite weird or special in comparison but more on that in the respective reviews which I will publish in the next few days.

Thanks for reading through! If you have any questions, don't be shy, ask me :D

This proposition lost the lovely galbanum bite the vintage had. Dry down is similar. In a similar style, I'll stick with Hermès Iris Ukiyoé.
