Cape Wrath indeed
As somebody who spent over a decade living on a small Scottish island and experienced being relentlessly battered by Atlantic storms every winter I have to say this perfume is fairly accurate to its name.
Straight out of the bottle in the shop I was hit in the face by oakmoss which already sold me on this perfume but I gave it a chance to develop while browsing the shelves.

It is salty. So so so salty. And also very cold cruel, sharp, peppery and green. There’s always green on the coast even in the harshest winters, the moss, the lichen clinging on to dear life on the cold, dead rock. Seaweed lingers in the background but never overpowering anything like in Megamare. It’s beautifully complex, unnerving at times, earthy and smooth up close to your skin, stabby like a thistle as it penetrates the air around you.

I had Replica Sailing Day on my other hand while sampling Cape Wrath and the salty base was remarkably similar. Very strong but never turning pungent or too peppery like it does with some other marine creations.

This scent is nothing short of a masterpiece.

A gentleman by the sea.
I expected it to be wilder, more rugged, more wooded, but no. It smells fresh, aquatic, airy, soapy, aromatic, and mossy, elegant and clean. It smells green, and it's also much more fouguère/classic than I expected.

The scent a freshly shaved 19th-century gentleman might give off on a seaside cliff, or a 21st-century Green Irish Tweed reinterpretation.

The Flying Stone
Bluish-gray expanse of sky, torn cumulus clouds by the storm, greenish-gray spray over a toxic sea. My new world, coolly peaceful and fiercely dynamic, with a sharp division between Above and Below.
With me, lonely cliffs by the North Sea keep watch for neighbors. But they are lost in resin fog, searching for themselves there, content with themselves, just like me. Until now.

Motherland, where are you? Your green meadows live in my memory. Lovely, lush, and nourishing for all kinds of creatures. Meadow flowers... oh no, the memory is too faint...

My loneliness wraps me sharply in bitter winds. How did I get here? What has stranded me here? What feelings have I lost here?
On the wet, rugged rocks, slippery from the salty surf, I search for solid ground but find only a precarious balance. How strange this situation is. I discover in it the analogy of my current dilemma.

Here I stand now as an autonomous self. Independent, self-determined, commitment-phobic. I dreamed so much of showing it to everyone. Above all to myself, but of course I didn't know that. I reacted to the people around me, to their provocations, with my finicky independence drive, with my inflated need for recognition, and firmly believed that I wanted everything just like that. Like a thrown stone that believes it can fly because it wants to...

Yes, I let myself be thrown. My life path was anything but autonomous. Now I am on my own orbit. Standing out from the crowd and lonely.
It is cold. I am freezing.

Success does not warm. My life made up of numbers that have clouded my brain lacks any substantial foundation. Its base consists only of the virtual: strategies, calculations, manipulations, and ideas. The stock market wanted it that way.
What is still substantial about me, besides my body, which is shivering here at the Arctic Circle?

Stop! What is this lamenting? You are a winner, a leader, a highly envied top scorer. The account is well-stocked, you can buy anything you need. -
'Well, upon closer inspection, the essential is invisible and certainly not purchasable,' memories from an earlier phase of life tell me, now pushing into my consciousness. 'The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, was once my favorite book. - How many wrong paths does that lie behind?' --

The cutting, wet gusts of wind reduce their Bft value (another number) to a bearable level. Were it the questions never asked that now, allowed to come to light, have a moderating effect?
Will I find my way back? Where is my compass? Will I be accepted again by the people I arrogantly left? Do I have the courage to try? The necessary humility?

What do I have to lose, other than my gloomy loneliness, which masquerades as glorious independence? Independence, does it really exist?

Believing that was probably my greatest illusion.

***

From the wrong path of a rootless self - I have been able to engage with this rough Beaufort scent (here the name is evidently the program). An experimental journey with personal added value.

A sharply pungent pepper, in conjunction with bitter angelica root, opens quite unpleasantly. The accompanying resins dim a bit. The result is hardly more pleasant, but more multifaceted. This mélange has transported me to a rugged, northern cliffside.

The green of galbanum merges with geranium for a brief intermezzo with a meadow flower charm. However, this is soon swept away by the wind. One of demanding incense and ethereal-sharp mastic. 'If he is too strong, you are too weak,' is proclaimed here from all sides.
This strong headwind persists and clears the mind for new thoughts. Everything is good for something!

Only after several hours does one arrive at the enjoyment of a conciliatory base. Still a bit brackish from the seaweed, but then it goes ashore. Moss and sweet grass relax and ground body and soul after this tumultuous coastal adventure.
Amber gives a good-night kiss and wishes sweet dreams.

As a perfume, I would hardly wear CW. As a scent self-experience, I find it extremely exciting.

Just overpowering, one-note calone. Love Euan's work usually, but this is Not Pleasing.

Earthy marine scent with oakmoss, vetiver, spicy pink pepper and resinous incense. Wild but it's a very wearable fragrance.

Standing on the cliff, looking at the rough sea.
Lush vegetation between the stones, plants swaying in the storm.
The air is warming up.

I find it less aquatic and more geosmin-earthy (thus musty), but there are better and rounder ones like Bat (2015) and Night Flyer.
