An idiosyncratic, oriental fragrance with strong longevity
I have a very old fragrance from my vintage miniatures collection. The Tonka seems to be around 60 years old, but at least it doesn't smell tipped, as the mini was still completely full and sealed. Nevertheless, the scent is not my cup of tea in the end because it is simply very heavy, opulent and decidedly oriental. The longevity is terrific though, we're talking 15 hours plus X. The sillage is also quite effervescent.
The top note starts green, citric and aldehydic. The heart note smells of garden cloves but is also decidedly spicy and oriental. The base offers a lot of cloves but also nutmeg. I can't detect tonka beans directly, but at least there is a nuttiness that reminds me a little of marzipan. I also have to think a little of stomach bread.
The fragrance is definitely exciting and probably a rarity. I would probably still give it away, as it is not so wearable for me.
