Hello everyone. Today I’m presenting another Berdoues fragrance. This time it’s the 1902 fragrance line, which I had been searching for quite a while, especially in niche perfumeries. Who would have thought that the 1902 fragrances are a rather affordable line that can be found almost everywhere, even in regular department stores? Well, one should keep their eyes open instead of just following the girls around… argh, I meant to say one should also take a look at the fragrances on the shelves with the cheaper scents, while I often tell everyone here that even among the absolutely cheapest fragrances, there can sometimes be real treasures :D
Anyway, the 1902 fragrances are presumably intended as a competitor to the colognes from 4711, as they are in the same price segment and there are also many different scents available. I think that’s great, as it provides even more options in the fragrance sector, and these little colognes are scents that one could especially use during the summer.
So, among these fragrances, I will describe Pivoine & Rhubarbe today, that is, Rose & Rhubarb, which sounds like a fantastic, fresh summer scent.
The scent:
Ah, the scent starts off refreshing and very pleasant. I smell zesty rhubarb in the top notes, which has a similarly lovely aroma to the rhubarb in Hermès Eau de Rhubarbe. There are also slightly sweet, powdery currants, and you can catch a hint of lychee, although you only really notice it if you know it’s there.
In contrast to the scent from Hermès, the rhubarb here can be enjoyed for a significantly longer time, as it remains somewhat detectable despite the weak sillage, even reaching into the later base notes, since I could still smell the scent of rhubarb on my skin after three to four hours, which is great!
Later on, there’s (more in the background) a bit of rose and sweet amber. Otherwise, the scent remains almost as it begins, except that the citrus notes are no longer zesty but just smell pleasantly fruity.
A simple but beautiful scent.
The sillage and longevity:
The sillage is quite weak. Despite the zesty start, the scent fades fairly quickly and becomes almost skin-close within the next hour. That’s a pity, but one is used to this with most colognes. So here, it helps to keep reapplying :D
The longevity is therefore not the best, as the scent is hardly detectable on the skin after three hours.
The bottle:
The bottle is cylindrical and filled with pink fragrance liquid. It’s nice that each scent has a different color of the fragrance liquid. On the front, there’s a label, with narrow side stripes in a stronger color of the respective fragrance liquid going around the bottle. Overall, everything is quite simple, but still quite nice.
Ah, I found the scent super. Of course, I have liked the note of rhubarb since Hermès’ rhubarb scent, and that’s why I think it’s so great that this note is really detectable for a long time here, even if the scent should quickly lose intensity. Because the rhubarb, with its zesty and sour-citrusy aroma, is perfect for a quick refreshment, especially on really hot summer days. And since the scent is weak and thus doesn’t annoy anyone, you can comfortably spray it on multiple times a day, especially since it’s quite affordable.
Therefore, I also think that the scent is a very good alternative to the Hermès fragrance, as it is not only significantly cheaper but also has a much longer-lasting rhubarb scent. Thus, I would definitely recommend testing this fragrance if you’re looking for a harmless, simple, but pleasant scent that is just meant to refresh you during the summer.
And with that, I’ll come to an end and wish you a lovely evening :)
