Subtle, But Maybe Too Subtle...
gs02 opens with a mild and quite brief squirt of fresh orange before it turns into an accord I don't think I can easily describe... It has a bit of an olive oil-like smell mixed with bitter cherry spiced leather which most likely is a combination of angelica, castoreum and wormwood among other ingredients. This slightly spiced leathery-olive heart accord sits on an amber base that is not sweet at all, while from start to finish the scent is both minimalistic and extremely subtle in one. Projection and longevity are both poor.

I know I like gs02, but it is hard for me to pin down why. It is so subtle that I find myself having to apply a bunch of it on skin to try and nail down its scent. Even doing that, I am at a loss for words to describe what it truly smells like and I am sure my vague descriptors in the paragraph above do not do it justice. All I *can* say is it smells unique and quite good, but I wish it were much more assertive. In short, gs02 is a minor success from Schoen who also created Clive Christian's masterpiece X for Men that has some similarities in its base. I definitely prefer X over gs02 by miles, but gs02 is a good way to sample what Schoen has to offer at a much lower price tag. gs02 earns a very good 3.5 stars out of 5 and is recommended.

Meh...
GS02 is a dry tar-herbal-fruity scent with a greyish “synthetic ash-smoke” feel all over, a sort of subtle amber-civet undertone, and an airy-gassy fruity note that weirdly reminds me of Baldessarini EDC and to a lesser extent, Lang’s Cuiron. While pretty much all the rest, the synthetic tar-leather base and the synthetic woodiness kind of remind me of Jil Sander Scent 79 (or any other cheap “dry-woody” contemporary fragrance) with an added old-school animalic vibe and a whiff of some sort of eucalyptus/cypress/olive tree note (half of these will be gone in minutes, anyway). The only thing I like here, i.e. the only thing which doesn’t remind me of ten times cheaper fragrances, is the overall texture, which is indeed fascinatingly weightless, feeling almost “empty” and fairly modern – “fairly” because honestly I am quite convinced that if GS02 was called, don’t know, “Herr for Man” and cost 20 EUR at your local drugstore, I bet everyone considered this “a generic and dull woodyamber-fruity scent smelling too light and lasting like a fart”. Worthy a try, but nothing really more than that for me.

Renovated concept
This is the most refreshing leather scent that I´ve ever smelled, you get herbal and fizzy aspects rounded with a leathery and animal notes, almost sexual. But I think the best of this fragrance is the concept, it is like a completely new and modern way to smell leather in a fragrance, you are wearing leather, yes, but it´s like you are wearing something with herby and acuatic feel, this is very unique. This is not the first time Geza Schoen refreshes heavy ingredients, he has done masterfully in Clive C. X for example.
The perfume also has a very nostalgic 90´s vibe, it´s like every cheap and manly scents of the nineties mixed together with the most interesting comtemporary niche notes to get a familiar but renewed sensation at the same time. I really appreciate that vibe, really transport you to another time. You feel like home. Comforting, sexy, modern, manly, very inspirational and out of creation standards. Geza Schoen knows how to do it.

Balance-Act
Well. Here I am. A few hours ago, I let this fragrance touch my skin. Skin and Mari are confused. Mari's skin is not used to niche fragrances. Mari's skin is pondering... As long as it does, my nose approaches the scene. It has to do this repeatedly anyway, because the scent is very pleasant and I don't want to miss any part of its evolution.

Right after spraying, a very spicy, heavy note greeted me. Herbal and seconds later also fruity. I spontaneously thought of incense, but a second later I detected thyme. I could also perceive the angelica root, but I couldn't identify the rest listed here. However, the thought of "long drink" crossed my mind. The top note quickly blends with the heart of the fragrance, as a very pleasant and subtle leather note soon makes its presence known.

The scent quickly becomes balsamic - both for the nose and for the still confused skin. A pleasant feeling spreads. The notes of the base note come creeping in, but still noticeably, and underscore the fragrance experience. The vanilla is very subtle, really just a hint. Exactly the right amount to add a touch of sweetness to the fragrance without overshadowing the fruity spice and the bitter beauty of the scent. A wonderful creaminess spreads.

Phew. Mari is completely baffled.

What fascinates me about this fragrance: it is (in my nose) perfectly balanced. Each fragrance note knows its place and only dances there, not taking away the position of the others. A perfectly balanced scent. Wearable for both men and women. Ah - I am delighted!

One thing bothers me: it is not pink...

"Campari, what else?"
Do you remember that incredibly arrogant, beautiful couple from the Campari advertisement many years ago, flirting with each other in a chic bar without ever changing their expressions? That could have been the perfect spot for gs02. Pure arrogance.

Indeed, it was the Campari element that sparked my curiosity for the fragrance.
I love Campari and I generally believe that there is nothing in the kitchen or cooking that couldn't be improved by alcohol.
So this was right up my alley, and I was impressed by how they managed to incorporate the bitter Campari taste so skillfully into a fragrance composition.

Despite the orange in the top note, there is no Campari long drink with orange juice and exotic fruits for decoration on the bar.
For me, gs02 is more like Campari with crystal-clear, cool Indian tonic on ice.

The alcoholic notes of absinthe and Campari are spiced with such contrapuntal notes as thyme, almost taking your breath away. Still, it feels somehow abstract and aloof.

Even the leather in the heart note is blonde, and the castoreum remains cool and distant.
No unexpected passion emerges here, and I consciously do not perceive tonka, amber, and vanilla in the base; the wildly swirling top notes are too dominant.

gs02 is indeed the coolest fragrance I know.
It is made for a young, urban audience that clearly has hedonistic traits.
It is absolutely androgynous.
It is self-absorbed and has made itself the center of attention.
It does not associate, it is not like... it does not imitate.
It is not fashionable, but modern and follows its own trend.
I think it fits very well with Berlin.

I truly consider Geza Schön to be an innovative perfume artist
and, to be honest, I am quite proud to be the owner of this biehl.parfumkunstwerk.

First campari orange, combined with bitter absinth note, then soft leather with a slight sweetness and constant grassy tartness. Interesting!

Spicy, leather if you convince yourself, overall rather weak as it smells unpleasantly synthetic in the nose.

The sum of original parts doesn't always make a greater whole. Clunky mix: bitter orange and sweet tobacco, leather and animalistic notes.

Spicy and cool, it's time for a shower,
a bit tipsy and somewhat smoky.
A little beaver drops by,
so fresh can animalic be.

With some scents, I can sniff blindly and know right away: Oh man, that's Geza again :-P.....leathery, spicy, and with an alcoholic touch.

A fresh cocktail on a dirty-leathery base that reminds me of Fahrenheit Eau de Toilette. Fits well & is well made.

The forester in an old leather jacket pulls out a flask + pipe tobacco. Cheers! says the beaver + peeks around the corner. Pleasant synthetic men's fragrance.

Sweet-spicy, ethereal-animalic absinthe with a thyme base. Interesting, but feels off to me. Not my taste. Beaver musk is quite prominent.

The "animalistic" note is subtle and grounds this rather light fragrance, the bitter Campari note is great
I like it a lot!
