Interesting Facts
The French cosmetics brand "Biotherm" is essentially water-based. As early as the 1920s, family doctor and biologist Jos Jullien discovered that mineral water from a unique region of the Pyrenees had an unusually high plankton content. At that time, the organisms of the thermal plankton were considered exclusive for skincare. Jullien researched thermal mineral water and wanted to use its skin-care properties in cosmetics. Together with the owner of the Molitg-les-Bains springs, one Adrien Barthélémy, Jos Jullien, therefore, founded the cosmetics brand "Biotherm" in 1952.

The range initially consisted of only three moisturizers for the body, face, and hands. Through a few press articles and a lot of word of mouth in upscale society, "Biotherm" quickly made a name for itself and reached the US in 1955 as a beauty aid.

At the beginning of the 1960s, the products of the cosmetics brand were increasingly tailored to the demanding clientele. Sun creams, slimming creams, and breast firming creams were created. From 1985, the company also turned to males and launched "Biotherm Homme" on the market. It was also followed by "Aquasource" with extreme moisture (1998), skin rejuvenation for all ages "Life Plankton Essence" (2014), and sun milk "Waterlovers" (2017).

Biotherm, which has been part of the L'Oréal Group since 1970, feels it must give something back to nature. For this reason, the company launched the "Water Lovers" initiative back in 2012, which strives to protect rivers, lakes, and oceans as part of corporate social responsibility.
