The Calculation Didn't Work Out
What an effort went into the launch of this fragrance. Special placements, setups, promotional ladies carrying a spare tester on their belts, TV spots, etc. But the spark just didn't catch, and in my opinion, there are several reasons for that.

Biotherm is a successful established skincare company in the mid-price segment. In the premium men's cosmetics sector, the company is even a market leader and was one of the first to launch a complete men's line. However, the men who spend 40 euros or more on a cream, regularly use exfoliators and eye creams, have different expectations of a fragrance than those that Force can satisfy. The scent is too pleasing and tame. It has been sufficiently described below, and I have nothing to add to that.

The fragrances from Biotherm that sell like hotcakes are Eau Vitaminee and its siblings. These are also casually picked up by women as refreshing scents for summer, pick-me-ups, and energy boosters. But men usually don't do that. When they choose a fragrance for themselves, they don't reach for one that carries the image of a cosmetics line. Such a "goes-with-everything" scent for the desk drawer is certainly found more often among women than among men.

Perhaps Force would find more supporters if it were placed directly in the men's cosmetics section. Perhaps the regular skincare customers would sniff it out of curiosity. But the guidelines are to place it among the fragrances, and there it stands, overlooked. Pleasant, certainly acceptable, but a man doesn't necessarily have to have it. Moreover, the packaging is not particularly striking in terms of beauty.

I am sure that with appropriately concentrated support from our side, Force could certainly be "forced" into the spotlight, but there are so many fragrances on the shelf that need this help. Unfortunately, we neither have the time nor the personnel to provide all these candidates with the necessary backing.

Biotherm Sport
The ubiquitous advertising setups in perfumeries as well as the commercials aired during prime time on German television make it clear: Here comes the next crowd-pleaser for Heinz Klawuttke from Oer-Erkenschwick.

Now, Biotherm is a well-liked brand in our household on the female side, and I also consider "Eau Pure" to be a fine thing, which is why I approached the topic of "Force" with goodwill. For a long time, I tried to convince myself of the fragrance or to discover the slightest hint of something unusual in it, but no, unfortunately...

The scent starts citrusy fresh and... oh, let's skip that, probably everyone can imagine how a contemporary clean men's fragrance smells, one that wants to sell but doesn't want to disturb anyone.

Even for me, who often shows understanding for such things, this was a bit lacking in backbone. The word "Force" is, of course, completely out of place here, but it has probably already been communicated in the marketing departments that "Sport" is slowly acquiring a negative connotation. So they opted out of that and incorporated the sporty aspect into the design of the bottle, which is supposed to resemble a dumbbell. It is heavy enough, after all. And the spray button is nice, but unfortunately, that's about it.

Freigeist Sport-Power light homme
Or something like that.

Force Homme by Biotherm.
What could one expect from a cream, wellness, and anti-aging manufacturer?

Something unprecedented? Something that shocks and provokes?

No,
just as little as Freigeist, which missed the chance to shock, Kenzo Power unleashed in "Power," does not bring us much Force (English: pressure, energy, power...) from the spray head.

In line with the current fresh fragrance mania, we have a summer scent that is trimmed to be serious, which, due to its citrusy beginning, certainly does not want to alienate sports fragrance lovers.

I don't want to speak ill of this scent, not at all. From my perspective, it is one of the most pleasant new releases because, despite its citrusy freshness at the beginning, you are not immediately overwhelmed by the smell of an air freshener for the car or a room spray.

After that, it develops without edges and corners, but also without particularly standing out (thus not negatively) into a complete fragrance.

Anyone looking for a current fresh designer scent and does not want to smell like squeezed toilet cleaner in citrus freshness will find here an acceptable fragrance that is certainly a nice addition for someone who only buys a handful of fragrances a year.

Old Wine in Expensive Bottles
I know Biotherm more as a cosmetics brand that produces expensive anti-wrinkle creams and such. Since there are always fragrance ingredients in such products, the transition to perfume is not too far. Nevertheless, I believe that different standards should be applied to perfume scents than to creams and soaps. Some things that are pleasant in those contexts can raise eyebrows as standalone fragrances.

Force is quite synthetic. This does not mean that it only contains strange chemical smells. There are a few points of familiarity. Force opens with a slight citrus note and then transitions into an undefinable green freshness that quickly reveals a very, very sweet base. However, one should not take the respectable notes of the fragrance pyramid too literally. I would describe this scent as green-sweet - a fragrance direction that is not very commonly encountered. Force reminds me of the unfortunately discontinued Adventure by Adidas, which represented this direction much more distinctly and interestingly. However, Adidas Adventure was a budget drugstore product, which is not to be expected from Biotherm. Here, 55 ml costs around €40, and for that price, you can already get "real" perfumes.

Still - Force is not bad, well-made, and acceptable as an everyday scent. With appropriate advertising, it will surely not be a flop. Personally, I am glad that my Adidas Adventure is not all gone yet.

Gummy bears bounce here and there and everywhere
Unfortunately, I associate this with the fragrance. One would naturally expect something completely different.

Because if you pay attention to the name, "Force" = power, violence, strength, then you simply cannot take this scent seriously. Oh yes, there’s also "coercion" as a translation. That fits better for a man.

It’s somehow the perfect scent for children. The top note is citrusy, synthetic, and very sweet, too sweet for me. In the heart and base notes, it becomes a bit spicier. Together, it results in "gummy bear juice." You might as well bathe in gummy bears; you’d get the same result.

It’s actually a shame because Biotherm is quite successful in men’s cosmetics. Maybe they should stick to that.

My little brother loves this scent, so I will probably pass it on to him. Because I am now too old for this unwelcome gift.

With the freshness of citrus scents, the absinthe emerges in the background. Amber and patchouli also make their presence known.

It's being rated worse than it is - which doesn't mean it's good. Citrusy, fresh, then slightly sweet...
