Bvlgari Man Wood Essence Parfum Bvlgari 2026

I received a sample from Notino, and I must say, I have never been more disappointed in a fragrance. Over 150 euros for 100ml at discount?!

The scent is incredibly basic and so well blended that it lacks any distinctiveness between its note breakdown.

Honestly, it may sound a bit extreme, but this reminds me of Le Mâle in Blue as execution (not as a scent), or perhaps even worse. Like many Bulgari fragrances, the performance is practically nonexistent, and the scent is so dull and uninspiring that I find it hard to believe it won't be a poor seller.
It likely won't be discontinued any time soon, though, as there are plenty of people with money who have no clue about fragrances.
This is the definition of a safe fragrance, but not only is it inferior to Le Male in Blue, I believe it’s worse than Y L'Elixir and any recent Chrome or Polo flankers in recent years.

If you own more than 2-3 fragrances, this one is definitely not worth discussing. Try it for yourself; don’t just take my word for it, but I wouldn’t wear this even if it were given to me as a gift.

Actually, I had no intention of writing a review of this fragrance. But after wearing it myself and then reading the existing reviews, my first thought was: How on earth can this be sitting at 6.1?

I came across Bvlgari Man Wood Essence Parfum more or less by chance. My hairdresser had the bottle with him and showed it to me. While he was cutting my hair, I had the chance to try it out properly. And I was quite taken with it rather quickly. Naturally, I checked Parfumo straight afterwards. And then came the surprising disappointment: 6.1 points.

Honestly, I don't understand it.

To me, this is a significantly darker, denser and more mature fragrance than I initially expected from a Bvlgari with this name. Warm, sweetish-woody, slightly resinous, with something rugged, angular and distinctly masculine about it. I like this combination exceptionally well.

It does not undergo any huge transformation on my skin. You get a pretty accurate impression of the character right from the moment you spray it on, and that character remains more or less intact later on. It naturally develops further, but stays true to itself.

And then there are the existing descriptions of it as “insignificant”, “uninspired” or “shower-gel-like”. I cannot understand the latter at all. When I look at the fragrance pyramid and experience the scent on my own skin, that is certainly not the association I get. To me, this is warm, woody, slightly resinous and masculine stuff - but definitely not a typical shower gel scent. Honestly, how anyone arrives at that impression is a mystery to me. And even if it were: shower gel smells good for a reason, after all. In any case, this fragrance does not smell cheap to me in the slightest.

My experience with the projection also does not entirely match the current rating. My hairdresser told me that he only sprays Wood Essence Parfum twice and is regularly asked about it directly. Even hours later. I was later able to confirm exactly that myself: while getting my hair cut, I had applied just one strong spray to my wrist, whereas I had applied another fragrance to my other wrist and my own fragrance much more generously to my neck. Later, when I got into a colleague's car, he immediately asked me about the fragrance. He knew my own scent, which I naturally mentioned first since, as stated, I had applied it much more generously. He immediately said that it could not be that one. Only when I held out my wrist did he recognize the Bvlgari as the fragrance he had noticed. So apparently, a single spray had clearly outperformed my other fragrances. For me, this confirmed the fairly impressive projection that my trusted hairdresser had described earlier. Incidentally, the colleague in question is also a lover of good fragrances with a proud collection - and he did not mention anything about it being generic or "shower-gel-like", either. ;) His words were more along the lines of: "Yeah, that one's pretty damn great!"

Of course, there are certain overlaps within the broad category of modern designer fragrances. But that does not make it interchangeable generic mush in my eyes. It has character and works really well for me.

I also find the longevity interesting. It currently stands at 6.3 points. I applied it the previous evening, at around 7-8 p.m., and could still smell it clearly after 2 p.m. the following afternoon (!). Of course, this is not a laboratory test and every skin type is different. But based on my experience so far, I definitely would not describe it as “weak”.

All in all, I simply do not understand the 6.1. Taste is subjective, of course, but my own experience with this fragrance is a long way from the current average rating. To me, it is one of the positive surprises among this year's designer releases.

Perhaps one should really give it a proper chance first, instead of merely nodding along with a verdict that was already reached after two sniffs from the test strip.
