Scentwise underrated, but I get the disappointment
So for me the smell is definitely way better than a 6.5 which is the current average rating.
I'd give it an 8.5. For me it's the best Y Fragrance from the line (on my skin, not necessarily on paper). And on my Skin it also smells by far the highest quality. So I actually get the official marketing text saying "highest quality ingredients etc.".
After testing it on skin I would get it over the EDP, the EDP intense and the le Parfum. Not for retail price of course, but you can get it for a quite decent price right now.
It's very masculine, it's fresh, a tiny bit fruity, a bit spicy, a bit woody. Incense and oud is minimal to non-existent, but the rest seems quite high quality to me for a designer fragrance.
On my skin it reminds me a lot of Bleu de Chanel but I think I even like Y l'elixir a bit more because I find Bleu de Chanel so very boring.
I say it's quite a good blue fragrance, not for retail price but for discount for sure.
Now to the name. Is the title of elixir fitting for this fragrance? No absolutely not in my opinion. It does not seem to be super beast mode for me, it's not experimental or ingenious and it's not super dark and concentrated. For me it's just the highest quality YSL Y perfume and that's that. So I can understand the disappointment, but the scent itself is fine.
Edit: Okay so I finally bought Y l'Elixir and got it yesterday and gave it a full wear today. So far I'm loving it. Especially for the 75 € I paid for it.
I sprayed 3 sprays on my neck (mainly on the clothes) this morning and I still smell it quite a bit on myself after 8 hours. So for me Sillage is good, Longevity is good. And I perceive it as indeed way darker, way richer and a bit more incensy / smokey compared to the rest of the line and indeed a bit unusual / daring with a tiny bit of oud. For me the best Blue Fragrance right now with an amazing Dark, Incense, floral special twist. In the Marketing Text it's called a "dark and white fougere" which for me fits perfectly. Thus for me elixir is in the end an okay label for this scent.
But it is very well blended and I think you need to be quiet sensible to get the quality and the nuances of the ingredients. The only thing I don't like is the bottle. It should have gotten at least a magnetic cap and a nicer package. It's really mid.
So that's at least my take on and my experience with the Y l'Elixir.
