Fresh or Fraiche? Caron must be pulling our leg?
Anyone expecting a light, airy summer fragrance from the brand "I’ll just let spring’s blue ribbon float" with lots of citrus freshness and a hint of April, like Lenor or something that fresh was just yesterday! is completely off track.
It’s quite a lovely scent that could really end up in my cabinet if I hadn’t (for now) sworn off new acquisitions. So I grabbed the devil by the tail and did NOT expand my wish list! HA!
Fraiche starts with a trip to my herb garden. Freshly chopped tarragon - essential for any salad, poultry, or sauces - a note of fennel (not the tea, but the vegetable) and slightly bitter grapefruit. The little lemon has given up howling against the power of the herbs.
After the herb quark, I thought: "MOOOOOOOMENT!" A herb and spice chypre! Again, HA! First, several pinches of nutmeg had to evaporate and a few (token) flowers had to pass by, and I found what I was looking for! The top note didn’t give it away. It took a few hours, and Eureka!
Now, the Fraiche is not one of those big Caron floral bombshells, not a dripping zibette "Oh, will I be remembered down in the crypt," but a dreamily beautiful herb scent of the finest kind, a hidden chypre. Only the name is nonsense! Fresh... what a joke!
