Another hit from Celine

Celine really can't miss in my eyes, I just love everything mostly due to the fluffy creamy orris butter. Even though vanilla isn't in the notes here, this does smell vanilla-ish to me due to the woody notes I guess. It's a similar vibe to Dans Paris, Black Tie, it's even reminiscent of La Labo. Vanille 44 to me, I guess due to the creaminess with a citrus note.
This really feels very gender neutral, something you could wear any time of day or year other than summer.
If you're looking for something a bit less feminine or formal than black tie, try this.

Enchanting Autumn

A wonderful autumn; an enchanting fragrance.
Colorful leaves, warm sunshine. A radiant scent fills the air.

Relaxed Breakfast

My first association, especially from a distance: day cream. A very good, fine one with something fresh and spicy in it. Before me, I see a breakfast on a hotel terrace overlooking the garden on a cheerful morning after a restful night. Perfect mood.

The creamy iris butter dominates over time the vetiver-cedar combination. The cedar does not come across as sharply synthetic or unpleasantly woody-ambery (a problem I often have with perfumes that list "cedar" as a note), but rather like the dry cedar woods for the wardrobe. When the freshness from the top note has faded, everything remains soft and rounded all the time. Really nice. The day unfolds after breakfast in a pleasantly relaxed manner. However, it is not very warm; a pleasant, yet by no means fresh coolness permeates the scent. The vetiver here has nothing green about it, which is a dimension I miss. Instead, a very subtle, barely perceptible smoky note develops in the middle of the progression, elevating the scent from the realm of the ordinary. In the dry-down, nothing of that is felt anymore. Fortunately, there is no excessive use of vanilla and musk. Thus, Bois Dormant never becomes sweet or fluffy, but maintains a certain objective straightforwardness despite all its softness.

For me, Bois Dormant is a powdery-soft, woody perfume leaning towards the stereotypically feminine side, with masculine additions of spice and traces of smoke, without sweetness. I find it friendly, noble, and elegant. In terms of style, Bois Dormant, as hinted in the marketing text, fits better with a flannel blazer or linen dress than with evening wear or jeans. It is chic, subtly high-quality (this iris butter is truly great), but not haute couture. The sillage is unobtrusive, and the longevity is moderate: After two sprays on the wrist, there was almost nothing left to smell after six hours. So, one can easily apply another scent in the evening.

What the name of the perfume refers to remains a mystery to me: La belle au bois dormant is Sleeping Beauty. This could hint at the almost sleep-inducing calm aspects of this scent, or perhaps its wintry ones. However, "bois dormant" can also be translated as "blendholz" (although "bois d’éblouissement" would be more common), which seems rather banal to me, but at least captures the fact that the wood contained in it is not at all forest-like. Qui sait.

I wonder why there are so few statements and reviews about Bois Dormant so far, even though it is currently enjoying high attention: After all, four sharings of it have been completed in the last month alone. Presumably, people simply feel comfortable with it without paying much attention to it. At least that’s how it is for me. I know few perfumes like this.

My relatively reserved rating is due to the fact that I prefer more pronounced scents. In its own way, Bois Dormant is nevertheless very successful. It will please those who enjoy gentle, woody fragrances with a coherent overall composition.

Finally a Vetiver for me

Even though I find the scent of vetiver very interesting, it has always been too angular and rough for me until now. But here is finally a vetiver fragrance that is very warm, soft, and rounded. Although the vetiver is always very present, it is somewhat tamed by the iris.
Perfect for autumn and winter, but certainly also wearable in spring.
