Great, just not for me.
I mentioned once that I was open to finding a good leather scent, and I was told about this one shortly after from 3 people. I ordered a sample a while back, tried it, didn't care for it, didn't want to be rude or dismissive (so I held off on reviewing), and figured it might be a fluke, so I've waited until now to attempt another trial.

I wish I liked it, and I appreciate what Louboutin is doing here, but I might just simply not be a leather person (where fragrance is concerned, I love actual leather). Oh well. Time to accept it.

I love the rest of this though, funnily enough! I adore the orangey/apricot osmanthus and clean laundry musk. Are there other acetates in here? It's as if I get a whiff of apple sometimes as a ghost note. It's nice.

I just wish the suede/leather wasn't here. Which of course, is the entire premise of this scent.

If you're looking for a beautiful, soft, slightly fruity leather, this is for you. It's objectively quite nice, but it's not my thing.

Jury’s out
I blind purchased this of the back of my purchase of L’Ambre (which I love). Because of this and my love of Osmanthus and leather I thought why not as it was less than half retail. It arrived, I excitedly unboxed my latest obsession and hmmmm!!!! It’s not a bad fragrance, which is of course subjective, but it’s not what I expected. I was expecting ‘Souls on Fire’ with a subtle hint of leather. It’s more fruity and even candy like and nowhere near the hights reached with L’Ambre but it’s not a miss. It’s unusual and a bit juvenile, considering I’m an old fart maybe too juvenile but I’ll stick with it for now, maybe it’s a grower!!

Another take on a classic combo
Combining leather with stone fruits or osmanthus has kinda become classic, in my opinion, and I couldn't be happier since I love all these notes.

CL gives us another take at this combination by pairing a soft leather accord with floral osmanthus aspect. I don't hear peaches here, but I do notice that it becomes powdery and gains a sort of "expensive hand cream" vibe, which I enjoy.

It reminds me of Mugler's Naughty Fruity, but the latter is harsher, probably because of tobacco. CL's leather is soft, and I imagine it as a lightly-colored and thin. I will definitely wear it as my fall pick.

Fleur de Cuir
I ordered the discovery set of the 'Le Fetiche' line directly on the Louboutin website and it was my first approach to the maison's perfumes. Although the collection was all in all underwhelming, I have to say that Le Cuir has a good construction and a growing appeal for me. I should point out from the outset that leather is one of my favourite notes, but that it is often too intense or goes into overly edgy and traditionally 'masculine' territory. In this case, on the other hand, we immediately feel the leather dissolve into a warmer and, initially, indistinct note, but which gradually takes on the appearance of a floral accompaniment (a not quite natural osmanthus). The interplay between the two components is well balanced, although it leans slightly towards the floral part, and leaves one eager to continue sniffing this combination. I am glad to have found a fragrance that brings out the softer side of leather without losing any of its punch and quality.

Smells like a dominatrix.

A balanced interplay of soft leather and florals, showcasing a nuanced, less intense take on the traditional note.

This fragrance is for the fans of strong, sticky sweet osmanthus with a more subtle leather accord rather than the vice versa.

Fresh, honeyed apricot florals with a soft roughout leather backing. More osmanthus bomb than leather/suede scent.

Intense (almost raw) leather opening softened and sweetened by osmanthus. Very sensual mix, addictive for leather fans. Not a blind buy!
