Maybe I'm just trying the wrong Creeds?

Which word in the name of this fragrance is further from the truth? Original? Actually Original Vetiver (2004) is a soapy, citrus-woody fragrance in the vein of just about every designer men’s fragrance with the words “fresh” or “sport” in the name from the era. Vetiver? None so far as I can smell.

OV includes that whistle-like note from Mugler’s Cologne, but instead of metallic like the Mugler, it’s sour. I think it’s meant to read as clean in a 21st century masculine manner, but the soapy, fragrance-masking quality isn’t quit able to cover its own sour-sweaty smell and winds up a bit vinegary, stale.

Soapy clean, fresh, simple and fantastic

Out of the several creeds I have tried, this ranks number 1 easily. It's so clean and easy to wear, it defines a dumb reach for me. It puts a smile on my face when I wear it and I get whiffs of it easily for 12 hours. The longevity is surprisingly given how light and non invasive it smells in the air. Very mandarin forward with a smooth soapiness, the vetiver is not so easy to smell and is tucked back into the base, which I'm OK with because I'm not the biggest fan of vetiver dominant fragrances.its simple and after mandarin fades, it becomes perfectly balanced. A touch linear but I can't get enough. Manages to smell expensive while being so simple.

Fresh out of the shower

Clean is the best way to describe this scent. A superb cleanliness smell, like soap suds and warm water. It doesn't scream or get loud. It doesn't sit to close to the skin where it's too quiet either. It's hard for anyone around you to hate this scent, unless they just hate things that smell clean.

I love this scent!

Best Vetiver perfume!

This was the first Creed perfume that I received from my wife, and it stands very close to my heart. The spray instantly sails the wearer to a very happy, bright and aromatic destination where the sun always shines. Seriously, this vetiver blend instantly makes its wearer happy!
The scent profile opens with a light but prominent mixture of bergamot and citruses that smells very natural and fresh.
This zesty halo of freshness stays for approximately 5 minutes and quickly changes the profile of scent to woody and earthy. This state does not stay for long, and the final accords of musk and ambergris emerge, making the scent profile complete. In the meantime, the perfume does not lose from any of its freshness and versatility.
This beautiful earthy, powdery, and green aroma does not change to a dull and commerce scent compared to other vetiver compositions available in the market.
Unfortunately, this wonderful state does not stay sharp for long and fades within a few hours with a limited silage. Should the longevity and silage be addressed by Creed, it would be the non-to-other vetiver perfume!

Outstanding & Unique

How original is this scent? Well it's The first fragrance I was willing to pay more than $200 to own. Original Vétiver is simply outstanding and unique! I've never smelled Mugler Cologne so at the time of this review I can truly say I've never smelled anything like it. It balances simplicity with complexity and remains clean the entire ride. The grassy, citrus, ginger opening is lively and bright. From there you're taken deeper into the grass where bits of powdery Iris is giving some roundness and subtle contrast to the sharpness of the opening notes. lingering there the vetiver begins to peak through teaming with Iris. OV then becomes a clean, elegant, soapy yet earthy and ever so slightly sweet smoky scent. It never become dirty or dark but settles to a clean, soapy, woody and yes vetiver scent.

Some mock Original Vétiver saying it's a "misnomer, there's hardly if any vetiver in it", because it's not your typical booming vetiver. I know every nose is different yet those sentiments seem not only undiscerning but also disingenuous. True it is not the typical in your face vetiver, yet it's presence is very evident and masterfully implemented (imo). For all of it's perceived failures it actually succeeds in being different hence the "original" designation fits. Moreover everything from the fragrances name, the green gradient on the classy hip flask bottle. To the gorgeous way the scent unfolds and lands in it's clean woodsy vetiver base is a consistent flow. Check out how the color of the bottle mimics the stages of the fragrance. At the top, bright transparency fading into the complex green mid and settles to a shaded yet clean green base. I perceive they really put thought into the whole experience and as a fellow artist and person who simply enjoys nice things I can appreciate that!:) Money well spent.
