Going against the grain
Though I'm no Creed expert by any means, compared to what I have smelled by Creed, Centaurus seems to be almost the complete opposite of the kind of fragrances they tend to make. This is not a bad thing, but its definitely a strange choice to make given that spicy fragrances of this caliber haven't ever found themselves a part of the Creed repertoire. Centaurus opens with a dry, spicy tobacco note. There is some warmth in the opening, but I mainly got the smoky tobacco and pepper notes. As it dries it keeps the tobacco front and center, but has a brief period of citrusy freshness to it in the middle, which feels out of place, but doesn't smell bad by any means. The dry down gets extremely warm and dense, and almost smells like a kind of apple pie. There's definitely some ambery-vanilla going on in the dry down, as well as a hint of a powdery tonka. This is quite a well blended scent overall, with a great balance of notes, lots of variety, and even a nice touch of gourmand thrown in. It manages to stay warm and cozy without ever being overpowering or synthetic.
Overall, I'm pleased with Centaurus. I love the way it smells, and it's nice to see Creed shake things up a bit. I don't see myself picking up a full bottle of this anytime soon, but I will certainly enjoy my decant while I have it. I highly recommend those who enjoy spicy oriental fragrances, and even those who enjoy gourmands, give this a try!
