Sonia Constant
Sonia Constant is one of the most influential personalities in modern perfumery. Born in Paris in 1987, she was already fascinated by fragrances as a child. Her grandparents still remember how, as a little girl, she would enthusiastically run through the garden as soon as she spotted flowers, just to smell them. She dreamed of becoming a designer or architect one day - the main thing was that she could give free rein to her creativity. Little did she realise at the time that she would find her true calling in the world of fragrances.
At the age of 16, she finally discovered the profession of perfumer for herself - a world she had previously known nothing about. When she came across the prestigious ISIPCA perfumery school in Versailles in 1994, her dream seemed within reach. But getting there was anything but easy. Her family doubted that she would succeed in this demanding industry. Many thought she was too shy and sensitive to gain a foothold in the world of perfumery. But Sonia refused to be held back. Without family support and the right contacts, she went her own way, guided by the conviction: ‘It's always better to reach for the moon, even if you only end up among the stars’.
Even before her training, she wanted to gain her first practical experience and knocked on the doors of numerous perfumeries to get a holiday job. Finally, Givaudan offered her the chance to start as a laboratory assistant in the summer of 1998. Here she learnt from the experienced perfumer Olivier Pescheux, who introduced her to the subtleties and secrets of fragrance composition. Under his guidance, she learnt how to write formulas, develop accords and implement the olfactory wishes of customers. For her, this experience was confirmation that she had found her dream job: Fragrances, creativity and passion - she combines all of these in her work.
Thanks to her iconic fragrances for renowned brands such as Narciso Rodriguez, Viktor & Rolf and Tom Ford, Sonia Constant is now one of the biggest names in the perfume world. Her style is particularly evident in creations such as "La Belle" by Jean Paul Gaultier and "Wanted Girl" by Azzaro, which harmoniously combine modern and sensual notes. Her work for Narciso Rodriguez, in particular the "For Her" line, also epitomises her creative style: warm and soft notes that stand for elegance and strength.
Alongside her work for the big names in the industry, Sonia has discovered her entrepreneurial side. Together with her husband, who is also a perfumer, she founded the fragrance house ‘Ella K Parfums’ in 2017. For Sonia, every perfume is a story that captures emotions and memories and brings them to life through the senses. She finds her inspiration everywhere around her, be it when travelling, in art or in nature.
