Opoponax Dream
Laura Tonatto lists only two key notes, namely myrrh and vanilla. I smell quite a bit more in "Kismet".
On me, the fragrance starts with a sparkling, energizing myrrh, very lively with peppery and spicy accents. I detect a blend of slightly soapy, still green and aromatic myrrh and sweet myrrh, that is Opoponax. The sweet elements definitely dominate.
I also suspect (and I know I am probably mistaken) a hint of spicy clove here. Even if I am wrong, the fragrance has this peppery-sweet, spicy and warm-red quality in the initial stage.
Gradually, the sweet-balsamic Opoponax takes center stage, accompanied by warm golden amber. I don't perceive the vanilla in this fragrance as gourmand, but rather as an additional warmth and support; for my vanilla-spoiled nose, it is rather weakly dosed. It seems to contribute "only" fluffy, almost transparent creaminess, while the deep warm sweetness appears to come from amber and Opoponax.
"Kismet" is very sweet, but since it simultaneously brings this slightly spicy, cozy deep warmth, I never perceive the fragrance as overly sweet or even sticky sweet. On the contrary, despite the dense amber-vanilla-myrrh-Opoponax cloud, "Kismet" remains pleasantly breathable and in motion, not weighing heavily on the skin. I find it to be a smooth, leisurely flowing fragrance that actually offers what is typically the base of a beautiful oriental scent: comfort.
In summary: For me, Kismet is primarily an Opoponax scent with an amber shell. It reminds me of "Imperial Oppoponax" by Les Nereides. While the Nereides one appears somewhat dark-resinous and aromatic, evoking thoughts of tree resin and autumn woods, "Kismet" is lighter and sweet-resinous.
I perceive the fragrance as "mature" and precious, even as "sacred". "Kismet" makes me feel and understand why myrrh was brought as one of the precious gifts of the Three Wise Men.
I smell golden-brown, creamy shiny myrrh balm with a smoky-spicy, clean scent projection. Although I have never smelled myrrh in its pure form, the fragrance gives me the impression that I am smelling something real and valuable.
