Boring "Eau de Cologne"
Intergalactically distant from the good old “golden era” of Etro colognes, to which I am used of being a massive fan of their offerings from the Eighties to early Nineties... this new Via Verri (I am reviewing the new, current one, not the “Vintage Edition”) is, well, a nothing-more-than-dull “fresh and clean” masculine cologne, offering you a bouquet of notes halfway tart-zesty citrus, mellow-bright woods (like cashmeran) and soapy flowers – or better say “floral soap”. Sharp and clean like a freshly-ironed shirt on a freshly-washed skin. There’s something spicy-resinous and a drop of powder, but all smells to me plain and kind of “plastic”, just like any cheap liquid soap. Basically a spicier and more floral little brother of, say, any Acqua di Parma “colonia” scent, not to mention dozens of others. Not to say all of this is “bad”, just the epitome of “meh” for me.

Like a Spring Morning
Via Verri 2010 was a spontaneous purchase - quite an expensive one... But I haven't regretted it for a second!

Actually, I was quite taken by various fragrance descriptions online for Vicolo Fiori, so much so that I almost bought it blindly, as it is not easily available in my area.
However, it so happened that I was briefly in Hamburg and wanted to take the opportunity to smell it in a well-stocked perfumery first. I found the Etro shelf even before the extremely nice older saleswoman noticed me. And while I sprayed Vicolo Fiori on my left hand and announced to her that I wanted to test it, she told me that there was a new limited edition fragrance from Etro. While doing so, she confidently waved "Via Verri 2010" under my nose. What I could sniff there had to immediately go on the other hand.

The fact that "Via Verri 2010" was only available in the 100ml version for about 100 EUR only slightly prolonged the "sales talk." But there was really nothing more to be done - the woman had seen through me from the very beginning: The "Via Verri" hand was glued to my nose and didn't want to leave.
My first association was "like freshly bathed" - but all in an elegant way! In contrast, Vicolo Fiori smelled almost a bit stale.

It is a very fresh fragrance with a distinctly spicy note. It reminds me of a fresh, clear spring or summer morning, before the sun kicks in. I do not know the original Via Verri (the rose scent) nor the presumably spicier remake Via Verri Vintage. I am a fan of floral fragrances, but here the floral components (rose, jasmine, iris) remain very subtle and pleasant in the background. So subtle,
that the fragrance could easily pass as a unisex scent. Via Verri 2010 is suitable for any occasion! I was surprised by the long-lasting nature, which I wouldn't have necessarily expected from such a fragrance.
Overall, a very, very beautiful scent, to which I know nothing comparable.

Via Verri forever
Today, it's unimaginable for me how difficult I found the Etro fragrances at the beginning. I tested Via Verri, Vicolo Fiori, Rajasthan, Magot, Shaal Nur, Paisley, Jacquard, New Tradition. And all of them multiple times on my skin, over and over again - and all the other Etros that were in the perfumery, at least sprayed on test strips and manically waved in front of my nose. It should be added that my scent excursions usually take place during my lunch break. I have to smell quickly, decide quickly, and spray quickly. And a person only has two arms... What a shame!
So: Weeks later, it finally happened: Via Verri became my gateway drug into the world of Etros. And it is still one of my favorites.
It starts with an unconventionally strong pinch of pepper, underlaid with something fresh and floral that I would never identify as jasmine in my life. More like rose to my nose. I also quickly pick out the cardamom, and actually, these components summarize the scent for me: pepper, cardamom, something fresh and floral, and (unfortunately after a bit too short a time) then soft musk and a little wood: but it’s not sandalwood, it must be cypriol - of which I have no idea how it smells on its own.
The pepper provides the spice, the cardamom is fresh-green-grassy to my nose, and the flowers give the scent delicacy, elegance, and lightness.
For women who prefer floral-sweet scents, this fragrance is probably not the right one. I find it perfect with its balanced mix of a little bitter, a little spicy, a little floral, and thoroughly unconventional for me. The only downside for me is the longevity. After a few hours, it’s gone - and with me, re-spraying doesn’t bring back that special freshness and lightness of the scent.
Despite or maybe even a bit because of its fleetingness: One of my absolute favorites!

My Favorite
When I discovered "Via Verri," I was looking for something truly special.
For days, I had the scent of jasmine in my nose, or rather, eventually just in my head; I can't recall where it came from, but I definitely wanted a perfume that best reflects that scent.
So, I went to a perfumery I trust and asked the nice saleswoman if she could recommend a fragrance with a strong jasmine note. She told me that she indeed had a few, but it was generally a bit more complicated for men. Nevertheless, she showed me some scents that matched my wish but didn't quite hit my taste, as they were either too sweet or had other notes that disturbed my perception.
When she informed me that she was running out of ideas, she showed me Etro "Via Verri," even though she had to fetch it from the women's section.
But that was it, the scent that had been on my mind for days. I had to realize that the top note doesn't smell overwhelmingly of jasmine; however, it blends very harmoniously with the other fragrance notes and thus comes across almost better than in the previous scents, where it dominated but didn't feel as harmonious. In retrospect, I always compared it to an elegant pair of shoes that would look overdressed with jeans but fits very well with a suit, even if it doesn't stand out as brightly.

So the saleswoman had already impressed me; however, I couldn't satisfy my desire for this perfume immediately. As my predecessor mentioned, it is quite an expensive scent, especially in the 50ml version, where the price per ml is almost 50% higher than in a 100ml packaging, and that one was unfortunately not in stock.

A few weeks later, I received the scent for my birthday and am even more thrilled than ever before. Both longevity and everything else are convincing.
And then there's a quality that I somehow can't put into words but still have to try. The scent feels "real." When sprayed, you are not overwhelmed, and the top notes are still easily perceptible.

In conclusion, I want to say that regardless of whether my perfumery lists the scent as a women's fragrance or whether it is described as such here, the overall composition is very well suited as a unisex fragrance.

In short, even as a man, I say: I love this scent!!

A Summer of Elegance - indeed!
I would like to join the comment from Cita. Similar to the clear and stable shape of the Etro bottles, this distinct, beautiful fragrance "Via Verri" is crafted. I have gone into "PointRouge" several times to spray this scent again and again. I have noticed that it fades quite quickly, but the scent development also progresses rapidly. It evokes a carefree feeling in me - you don't have to think long, with this fragrance a woman can't go wrong. She can apply it multiple times a day.

I would like to share a tip/experience here: If after some time "Via Verri" you feel like something more intense and spicier, then I recommend "Rajasthan" by Etro! It can be worn wonderfully as an evening fragrance if you don't like it too pompously spicy, but still want a distinction from the floral-fresh Via Verri.

It's Etro perfume of the new era. Boring, fresh, cheap, albeit pleasant. Nothing to do with the famous old scents of this brend.

Metallic-sweet floral scent. Fresh, clean, slightly spicy. Featherlight elegance. Not a floral imitation, but something truly new.

Fresh-floral with a slight green hint, it sparkles briefly at the start and has a light spiciness; I can detect cardamom. Beautiful scent*

THE summer scent. White laundry blows in the sun, refreshing and tangy like a gin and tonic. A neutral cloak for the office and appointments. Reapply often.

I think it's great! Delicate-floral-fresh-spicy-woody. Pepper over flowers + wood is an amazing contrasting combo. Perfect for daytime!
