Favorite Patchouli
Among my patchoulis - Etro’s Patchouly, Santa Maria Novella, Jovoy Psychedélique, and Honoré Payan Patchouli Original - Etro’s is my favorite. To be fair, they’re all top-notch and I can’t find real faults in any of them. It just comes down to personal preferences.
Etro doesn’t shout. It speaks softly, calmly, steady. Think a mellow swirl of wood, chocolate and amber, a touch of vanilla, a little powder, cozy without getting syrupy. As it dries down you get this clean patchouli wrapped in a light powdery halo.

Unisex warmth
I owned a sample of this perfume given from a friend and when I tested it I loved it immediately. Although I'm not a patchouli fan, I appreciated this well balanced scent where the earthy patchouli notes are made softer and warmer by the amber and the labdanumtonka bean base.
This one is a typical winter fragrance to wear with a cashemere pull and a soft and warm scarf , for a cocooning effect.

Not very expressive
That there is no comment yet for Etro "Patchouly" EdP does not surprise me after I tested it.
The reason I have recently been on the lookout for beautiful patchouli scents is that, to my surprise, my husband reacted to the patchouli scent "Patchouli Nosy be" by Perris Monte Carlo: "Oh, that's a beautiful fragrance, you smell so good." And that was the first time in six years of Parfumo that he expressed such honest certainty.
Otherwise, I can wear whatever I want; he either doesn't smell anything or says something indifferent like: "That's a strong scent," and very often: "That smells like lily of the valley," even when it is not a floral scent at all. Because he guesses that, he loves lily of the valley scents (and I can't stand them).
There are only a few fragrances that he actually perceives correctly.
Of course, this has its advantages on one hand. Because I can indulge in whatever I want. I usually don't have to pay attention to his judgment when I ask him. It always turns out as he thinks it might be. Interestingly, he sometimes smells lily of the valley in the same fragrance, and other times he does not. Often, when I ask him how he finds the scent, he says: "Oh, I didn't pay attention, I don't smell anything."
But with patchouli, he always reacts with delight to my great surprise, and I wonder silently what part of it might come from the past before me. Well, so what!
Now I already have several patchouli fragrances, and I love the variety myself. Besides, one should always have an alternative in case a fragrance that one likes is no longer available.
Long introduction, short meaning regarding "Patchouly EdP" by Etro:
It is a nice scent. At first, I smell bright, freshly sun-dried patchouli flowers. However, they seem to have been wilted even before drying and already smell a bit dusty-powdery like hay. A little later, a note like vanilla pudding powder comes in, with a slight cocoa butter scent like white chocolate. Nevertheless, "Patchouly" is only subtly sweet. Tonka is used very sparingly. To be honest: If it weren't listed, I wouldn't have suspected it. I regret that I don't smell labdanum at all, but rather a milky balsamic scent, which must be Tolu. Over time, a hint of a bitter note develops.
I miss a counterpart in this fragrance, a bit more woodiness or perhaps bitter cocoa. Something savory, so to speak. Thus, "Patchouly" remains very nice, well-behaved, and expressionless. It seems as if Etro didn't quite dare to give "Patchouly EdP" more character in one direction. So it is a fragrance that is always wearable, but it does not touch me, neither positively nor negatively.
Because whatever my husband says about it, first I have to find it beautiful and enjoy wearing it.
The longevity is good, the sillage is as mediocre as the fragrance overall.

A beautiful, amber-warm patch. A bit dusty, dry, well-balanced sweetness. Definitely has some festival vibes***

Down under the earth mound. The burrow is blocked with fine syrupy resin. Sweetly snoring, the mole folds its little paws for hibernation.

Beautiful chocolate patch with a hint of autumn leaves. Cocoa-vanilla-creamy. If only the signature note wouldn't fade away so quickly.

A chocolate bar back and forth. First a dark chocolate truffle, then it moves to milk chocolate and finally to white vanilla chocolate butter. Delicious.

I like patchouli, but it really hits my nose - new test in winter? Scratchy, rocky earth, unfortunately knocks me out.

Woody-earthy cellar-must patchouli becomes more tolerable and pleasant over time with sweet benzoin. High-quality. For patch lovers.
