Peacemaker
It's not the grand entrance in elegant evening attire, no fragrant shower of blossoms, no stormy and sparkling water, no English-distinguished clatter of teacups. Nor a dark forest of witches or something encroachingly animalistic in notchy leather jacket.
No.
It's delicious and downright gourmand.
Sunday afternoon. The tidy kitchen. On the big wooden table is Mother's brightly painted biscuit tin, filled to the brim with gorgeous pastries. Very fresh.
Lifting the lid, such a wonderful, familiar scent of delicate buttery cookies with vanilla - powdered over with a light hint of almonds, of transparent ambers, toffee and butter - escapes. There's some brown sugar and creamy whipped cream to go with the hot coffee. The bouquet of violets on the table smells quite wonderfully dark-flowered and bitter-green.
Everything is familiar, everything is well and velvety. ... Would like to embrace me and the world.
From the radio, a pretty ballad by the Carpenters crumples onto the white tablecloth.
Little world.
My little world.
With cookies.
Peacemakers.
