The inconspicuous sample tube and me
Once again, I felt like I had sniffed my way through a ton of samples. I took part in sharings, swapped with lots of dear perfumas and perfumos, often had great expectations, but once again there was no really great fragrance that just fits everything for me. Who doesn't know it? Some that we were particularly looking forward to are downright awful. Others are nice, pretty, yes. But nice is the little sister of you know who. Nothing that I would necessarily want to wear more often or even own. And then it suddenly happens. There's an inconspicuous little sample tube. It didn't even catch my eye when I unpacked it. And then I spray it and immediately think - oh, wow! What is that? Fantastic. Simply fantastic.
That's what happened with me and Etro Rajasthan. I smell a colorful bouquet of flowers. Whether it's roses and mimosa or perhaps freesia or something completely different doesn't matter to my nose at first. There is also a nice spiciness, like black tea. The pepper and the knotweed? I immediately think of Krigler's Camelia Extraordinaire 209, one of my favorite fragrances and also one of the most expensive perfumes I own. This one could be the L'Eau version of the Krigler perfume, if there was one. Because there are also similarities in the base, when the amber adds a subtle vanilla note. It starts off a little more tart than the Krigler, a little woodier. I suspect that ISO-E-Super plays a role here too. It's a fragrance that I'm often good with if it's not too dominant. For a few hours, I perceive a fine rose scent on a woody base. It alternates between tart and sweet, woody and sweet.
But suddenly something more reveals itself to me. All of a sudden, I am surrounded by pretty, vanilla scents that also seem very familiar to me, but not from Krigle's Extraordinaire Camelia. I discover similarities with the wonderful Fresh Sugar, which also skillfully plays with sweet and spicy notes, citrus aromas and flowers and develops an enchanting melange. Sugar, which I have worn and owned since I was 26 years old, is discontinued, like so many of my favorites. That's why I think it's all the nicer that Rajasthan is also in this category. Because my Sugar bottle won't last for so many more summers.
Yes, of course I treated myself to it. There was a bottle in the souk and I couldn't resist. That's how it is sometimes. With me and these inconspicuous sample tubes.
Thank you so much, dear Stinky Cat, for packing this for me as a goodie. Yes, this will be my new fragrance for this summer. It can go that fast.
