Olt man river
Taking its artistic vision from the river named Olt in Romanian, Alutus carries promises of a flow through different landscapes. I think it succeeds.

There is quite a bit of mentholatum ointment to begin with (yes, I am serious). But it morphs after 20 minutes and I would say it remains cool in a fresh, minty or camphorous kind of way and not quite aquatic. Perhaps it needed to be so for an inland river discharging into the Danube after some 600 km.

Alutus probably remains very eccentric to most noses. I get a lot of Patchouli and teak, but the development eventually takes a different direction than the usual woody dry down.
Eventually, a pseudo-barbershop impression plays out nicely, vaguely reminiscent of the “green line” from Italy’s Proraso house, yet Alutus remains charmingly idiosyncratic. I cannot say I get noticeable amounts of oud nor myrrh, yet there is a strange, lasting impression of eccentricity I cannot put my finger on. It is as if you add something really crazy to a bottle of Davidoff’s Cool Water so that it changes personality entirely. If you get the chance, try it.

A Lightly Aquatic Incense
Initial has a certain note I've smelled across Adi ale Van fragrances and can't quite pin down. This fades quickly and leaves light aquatic notes and tropical woodiness. Over an hour, this gradually morphs into a more incensed and resinous aroma, before becoming more strongly patchouli and oud. I was really intrigued by the initial aquatic take, although I wish this lasted a bit longer and was where the fragrance fell for its whole lifecycle. The resulting fragrance is a pleasant incense aroma, but it's not something that really sets itself apart as much as I hoped.

Longevity is solid, as usual with Adi ale Van, lasting 6-8 hours on skin, faint for much longer. Projection is moderate for the first half. Overall, solid power, but I wouldn't mind a bit of a sacrifice here for a scent that gave seaside incense vibes.
